I don't see why you'd want to be subtle about telling a girl that she's fat.

If my girlfriend got fat I'd straight up tell her that she's fat and break up with her fat ass if she doesn't fix the problem quickly.

 

I'd rather my boyfriend just tell me I'm fat... but then of course he and I trust each other and are open and honest.

Also, I look like an anorexic meth head so it's not a problem.

Why would I need ten manipulative ways? I can just say directly, "Honey, you're putting on weight - and that was ok the first few pounds - but it's beginning to get unhealthy. And yes, I still love you. Which is why I'm telling you this."

Plain and simple English, spoken gently when we're both alone so as not to embarrass her. Then I'd suggest a healthy diet and fitness regimen for the both of us ('cause the day she's fat enough for me to tell me that will be the day that I'll be twice the weight I am now ).

 

That is the best way. I admit that I have told my boyfriend that he is putting on some weight. It doesn't make him any less attractive to me, but I am concerned about his health and happiness. He wasn't offended and I didn't have to be underhanded.

You guys don't really think that saying it's unhealthy is a good excuse, do you? Unless your S/Os are gaining ungodly amounts of weight, it really isn't going to affect their health.

 

It's an awkward thing, and probably a little mean. But then maybe that article has helped a few people out there. Say someone has a girlfriend who is getting fat and they don't like it, who are you to say beauty is skin deep? It's in the eye of the beholder and if that person wants them to cut out the cupcakes, so be it.

PLUS, you have this blatant sexist attitude in woman's magazines. '10 ways to know your guy is cheating', 'Is he really Mr Right?'- where they are such derogatory questions and assumptions you cannot believe they put down a mans affection simple to it.

Well, that's the only time I'm going to complain about her weight - when she's clearly gained a lot that it's not healthy. But yeah, I get what you're saying.

But if we're just talking normal, within-healthy-standards weight gain, I'm not gonna complain. Well, maybe if she spends too much on new larger clothes.

 

Yeah, exactly. I wasn't talking about a few pounds here and there. I was talking about more serious weight gain. Weight gain that is happening because of overeating due to stress. Which is definitely a health concern.

 

I agree. I just hear a lot of people saying things like 'I would tell my girl if she was gaining weight because it's unhealthy,' but it usually comes off pretty hollow. Again, as I said, you'd have to gain a lot of weight for there to actually be any health risks; it seems more like a justification in some cases.
