No system is perfect. There are flaws. Americans are too busy to vote on EVERY SINGLE ISSUE OUT THERE. That is why we need a representative democracy. A country as large as ours cannot deal with the day to day law making decisions we would have to undergo if we had a consensus way of gov't. It would never work with the amount of people that we have in this country. Most people are UNEDUCATED when it comes to political issues, we cannot possibly depend on them to vote on laws that will rule our lives. That's why WE choose who will represent us...I vote for those who I think have the CLOSEST morals and values as I do... You have a right not to vote, but if you don't vote, I don't feel like you have the liberty to bitch about who is in office. But that's just my opinion...and I feel a lot of people share the same sentiments.
do you understand how fucking retarded and contradictory that is. You believe that you live in a true democracy, that voting gives you some say over the decisions that affect your life, but that the average person isn't educated enough (forgetting the fact that people don't have to STAY uneducated) to make those desicions. So you rely on "professionals" to run your life. And you don't choose who represents you, you are GIVEN a choice. A or B. Doesn't matter that both A and B are wealthy, doesn't matter that A and B profit from war, doesn't matter that A and B have both been in office longer than God, doesn't matter that A and B agree on 75% of the issues. Doesn't matter that the desicions A and B will make will affect you a hell of a lot more than it will affect them, regardless of the fact they they cannot truely know or understand what is best for you or your community. As long as you get to choose A or B then you are happy. Lesser of 2 evils is not democracy and you have not made a damn bit of difference when you voted. You are like a dog happy with scraps of leftovers. domesticated, declawed, powerless, and happy for a little occasional attention from your superiors. You are sadness incarnate.
I choose who I let choose my future. I won't let a small group of people tell me who's going to choose my future, without my say! That's why there are INDEPENDENTS. YOu don't have to be affiliated with any party to vote. Good for you Just because other politicians do it, doesn't mean you have to. Dont' cop out. If you feel you have something to say, REALLY say something, DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. Sure, you're involved in groups that might be anti-democracy, but that doesn't mean that it's making much of a difference if you're not taking ACTION. Action is doing something unexpected, unpredictable. So, why don't you do THAT instead of berading people who feel that this system is what we have, so we might as well make the best of it. Representative democracy isn't perfect, but you know what, I'd rather be a rep democracy than a totalitarianship or a dictatorship.
Do you even understand what that means, cause it makes zero sence. Yeah and i'd rather have my arm cut off than my balls, that doesn't mean i don't have other options. As i've said, i DO work to make a difference, you don't, you pull a lever so somebody else can make differences for you.
Wow, you're so socially conscious that you use the term "retarded"...hmmm, I've gained so much respect for you I'm given a choice? At least I HAVE that choice. Some people in this world DON'T have that choice they are appointed a leader...or in some cases it's just because of inheritance that they are even there...talk about ridiculous. I don't have the time to go to every single meeting gov't holds about all the issues out there...so, yeah, I do rely on a professional to do that for me. I'm OK with that. If I had all the time in the world, I'd love to follow every single bill, or deal with every single issue out there, but, let's be realistic there. We all have to work to survive, and since I can't get paid at this moment to follow those issues, I'm OK with letting someone do that for me. I do plan on running for office when I'm older, not affiliated with any party. I have ideas and I have a desire to MAKE a change. So continue to bitch and be sure to get out and vote for me when I'm on the ballot I'm an issue voter, I vote depending on the issues that are important to me...and that's what I choose to do. If you don't like it, then I'm sorry you can't accept other people's freedom of choice. You are entitled to your opinion. I'm entitled to mine. Have nice day
Actually I think you meant "sense". If people all felt like you, there would be only a small percentage of people out there that elect the officials. The elite group, the ones that have obvious ties to that particular party. I won't let THEM choose my future (that elite group). That's why I encourage my circle of friends to get out and vote, get out and give those elite groups a run for their money! I'm glad you know so much about my political life. I don't go out and brag about it and advertise it everywhere
If you ever actually experience freedom i would suspect that you would run the other way. You're happy being a sheep, fine. Just don't pretend that you're changing anything, cause your not.
LOL there is no such thing as freedom, you silly boy! And if you feel I'm a sheep, I'm sorry you are so judgemental.
The elite group already run the country! What i'm proposing is that we STOP relying on elites to run our affairs and do it ourselves. stop being a tool.
So you propose every single person vote on every single issue and every single bill? Do you know how time consuming that will be? Talk about overhead...sheesh Stop being judgemental A direct democracy is not the answer, in my opinion, but you don't see me sitting around calling you a retard or a tool, do you? I, frankly, feel sorry for you.
What, are you saying that you can't be bothered with running your own life? a direct democracy can/will/does work. The article i provided went over several ways that it can/will/does work. I didn't call you retarded, i said the statement you made (that in a democracy people are to ignorant to make their own decisions) was retarded and i stand by that. And yes, you are a tool, don't mean to hurt your feelings, i just assumed someone had let you know by now....
Some of us are just trying to put food on the table, honey. I work two jobs, go to school fulltime, and volunteer. I know I don't have the time in voting on EVERY SINGLE ISSUE out there... One article that was obviously biased. It wasn't a scientific paper. Sorry, I don't buy it. Especially when you take into consideration the cost and the time commitment. You still will have the select few people educated enough and RICH enough to be able to follow the political process...the elitism will be even MORE prevelent, in my opinion. Again, someone so "socially conscious" wouldn't dare use that kind of language, but you are entitled to your opinion. You really think I care what anyone thinks of me? Particularly ones on the internet? LOL, I don't judge people, I'm sorry that you do. And you are entitled to whatever opinion you have, it's just too bad you have to stoop low. What a shame.
Have thin skin, don't you? Again, if you're comfortable having elites run your life that's fine, but don't pretend otherwise. Local autonomous groups of individuals deciding on the best course of action for their communites while working within a federation of likeminded groups is possible and far more desirable with the shit that you seem satisfied with. And what "proper language" and social awareness have to do with each other is beyond me, more elitism i guess.
*nods* That's irritating. I have a friend who is extremely political and talks so much about the things that should be different and how pathetic things are now; and yet she doesn't vote. And afterwards she'll complain about the results. And it doesnt make any sense.
Yeah, god forbid anyone should question how the system is set up and promote alternate and better ways for individuals to make their voices heard. Keep pulling that lever and maybe someday you'll hit that jackpot...
I still don't know what steps YOU, personally, are taking to make it better though. It's great to have ideas, but if you don't pursue these ideas, what good are they?
I've already given you several examples. Representative democracy is an oxymoron. True freedom consists of: Autonomous living Consensus decision making Local Activism Direct Action Prop You willing never change the system by using the system, you will only serve to further perpetuate it. It's called Anti-Politics. And you can't get more grassroots than that.
There is no such thing as freedom. It's an illusion. Read Hanna Arendt. You can use the system to change things. Vote people into office that have new ideas, new thoughts, have a desire for change and have the ideas for this change. I still haven't heard YOUR ideas for this change. You have an idea for what you want the ENDS to be, but what are the MEANS to these ends? I still don't feel you've given me an answer to that...
I couldn't give 2 shits about the nation-state. You take the same # of people and you have them all involved in their local communites(actually involved in the decisions that have a direct impact on their lives), you grant them autonomy, and you will have a strong nation because you will have a strong people. bottom to top until there is no bottom or top.
