with my dreads, they wont join unless i make them. some dreads that have neglect baby dreads near them have started to congo by themselves, but all the ones in the pics have been forced to join with beads and thread and stuff, so theyre forced to grow as one. it is only the new growth that joins, the mature lengths wont. i have thought of using a felting needle on them to try and stick them together, but i dont think i can be arsed! one of my original congos, i started at about 4 weeks, so most of it is congo. the original backcombed ends have fallen off (see prev post, hah), so at the end there is a slight split between the two original dreads but the rest is solid my fringe hair also wont dread! my few fringe dreads have been tnr'd and backcombed and i always mess with them to tangle them up, but they usually fall out right away. im not too fussed about the long hair really. i do have some neglect baby locks just beginning to start at the nape of my neck now the congos that i have bound together wont grow together, i just bound them to keep them in their group as it were. and i like wraps.
I got two congos going with bobbles on the root but now I think they're as fat as they're going to go. I used to rip them to stop them merging, but then I stopped and let them do what they wanted. I think every dread paired up and I got some in threes and a couple of 4s and since then they've stopped. Nothing needs ripping anymore. I could probably force some more if I tried but they've not done it by themselves in a good while. The mature tips would never congo like the new growth, but I cut most of my dreads by nearly half before summer, removing the individual tips, leaving just the new fatter congos. Fringe I still can't do jack with. I used to cut it, but then as it grew back it looked stupid and was too short to part.
mine used to join at the root a lot when they were younger, i had to rip after every wash thx beaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaann
Check the length of those! The beads and things are cool too. I had some glass beads in mine at one point, but then one by one they got smashed! part of my drying routine involves shaking my head like it's 1987!....and the beads were introduced to the radiator at quite a velocity.
might start putting more beads on.. but because im congoing quite a lot of them, standard 'dread' beads are no longer big enough. and mandy, yes, yes it is. the natural dread part, ie, the new growth, is really soft.. the older, backcombed length is really dry and spiky, so as long as you only smush the new growth youll be fine......
does anyone else with mature locks go through phases of just ignoring them? like.. chucking them up in a bun, only taking them down to wash them, ignore them at all other times and just generally forget theyre there? i kinda feel like im bored of them, but i dont want to cut. sometimes theyre in the way, which is why i tend to put them in a bun because theyre just out of the way and not likely to fall in my face. i dunno. been a pretty fucked up night for me tonight. im talking shit.
What's wrong with that? Sometimes all hair gets in the way. Especially shitty short hair that's not long enough to stay out of your face or tie up. Not being obsessed with your hair sounds just fine to me. Doesn't mean it's a sign you should cut it off.
I did that for a while, they annoyed me because they were too heavy and too hurty and too loose in places and too tight in places... I only usually had them down the day after I washed them, after that they got all icky (well i felt like they did) so I didn't have them down much. What made me feel better was a good hard maintenance sesh. BAng out a 2mm hook nd go all out. If you're down saf again I'll tidy them up I don't know why I makes em feel better, but it does xD
Congos are the best. I used to pull them apart (mainly because it makes a really satisfying noise), but then I let them congo and until recently I thought they were done. I thought they'd all congo'd as much as they wanted to do, but I've just found some new ones so I'm excited about it again. =]
I'm just trying to fatten up all/most of mine. I like thinnies, but some are rrrrrrreeeaaalllllyyy thin and I'm starting to prefer chunky dreads. Thinking of cutting the ends of sometime next year, so I'll only have new growth instead of manky old backcombed ends
Ooh I slowly went through that. It took me a while to get all of the backcombed cut out, because oterhwise I'd have had really short dreads, but they're much better for it now. It's all new growth so I have a consistent texture and bendy-ness and they rinse through much better now.
