*steers topic back on track* This thread is about Democracy or lack thereof, in Iran. Let's keep the banter about european's posting style outside of this Forum if we can, people.
Fuck that shit, you cant go posting replies to posts then deny right of reply. You posted two damm messages before YOU decided its time to get back on topic, youre abusing your mod powers. and I aint backing down.
Elijah had it right down there. Those who worry about their neighbor forget to cut their own grass. I wouldnt bet the greenbacks in my wallet that the quality of life in iran is any worse then any western society.
On the bad side 7 protesters were shot dead today. On the good side an unprecedented move in the Islamic Republic's 30 year history has come about http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/8102224.stm Though it seems small the fact they did that is massive. The part of government beyond elected control and supreme leader himself are beginning to turn their backs on their original statements and endorsements of the numbers The pillars of the republic are starting to crumble. Mosavi is the former prime minister who is well liked who lead Iran through the Iran-Iraq war, the former 2 term president, and Khatami who use to head the Revolutionary guards for 15 years calling the election rigged and demanding a recount
My first reaction to the announced fraud investigation was that it was a smokescreen and a pragmatic attempt to buy 10 days of relative calm, which could derail the opposition's momentum. But then I realized that the high-ranking ayatollahs might be sufficiently out of touch with the day-to-day operations of the government that they could have been out of the loop on the rigged election. They could be honestly pissed off about it. Or maybe they were in the loop, and simply realize that they have crossed a line with the voters. Either way, the people are not going to give them 10 days to figure this out.
I'm sure they regularly manipulate election results in Iran. Problem was this time they simply overdid it. Its one thing to win, another thing to win solidly everywhere in every demographic when polls showed nothing like that kind of support. Things have not being going well in Iran. The country didn't exactly flourish under high oil prices, and with prices much lower there simply isn't as much money to paper over the cracks. He is opposed as much for economic reasons as his stupid inflammatory foreign policy and his role as an enforcer of Islamic repression.
Well they put into effect severe new limitations of foreign reporters so they're barely allowed to even leave their offices now, so news from Terhan is sketchy, Mosavi urged his supporters not to rally again today since 8 people were killed yesterday, but apparently a new rally has been seen forming
i think they're just trying to replace the current guy in power with one that will be more submissive to what the west and israel wants.
The government has taken down internet networks, blocked facebook, myspace, and other mediums of social network communications. They're cutting down phone lines and detaining people. They are saying that Twitter has become a useful tool for organization, that and many people are using proxies.
Well hundreds of thousands of people were once again on the streets of Terhan in a day of mourning for the at least 20 now who were killed in protests the other day. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bo65c1VEUXU thats the english version of Al Jazzera reporting on it and they have some good footage of the size The problem of news coming out of the country though still remains a problem. Anyone have any good links that don't involve twitter? Tomorrow should be interesting though, Khameni has to give public prayer tomorrow and it's going to have to come up on his appearance on TV
