3/4 Cup baking soda 2 Tbsp lime juice 2 Tbsp apple cider vinegar 1-2 Tbsp sea salt (optional) 6-8 drops tea tree essential oil 4-6 drops lavender essential oil 2-3 drops peppermint essential oil enough warm water to soak all your dreads Mix all ingredients in a large basin and soak your dreads, making sure that your scalp is saturated too. Wrap your dreads in a towel and let it soak for at least 30 minutes. Rinse with warm water until water runs clear. **You can add herbal teas to this as well, to give your head some extra love. Just boil a handful of herbs in a medium pot full of water for 15-30 minutes, until you have a dark tea. Strain and cool the tea before adding to recipe. Try using nettles, rosemary, parsley, thyme or sage.
can someone clarify what a cup measures, because i spent ages going thru cookbooks to try and convert it to a useful measurement (eg grams) i dont have an american cookbook, but i do have australian, and then it just converts to fluid oz, rahrahrah. gives me headache.
I've gotta say this was the case for me as well when I felt I'd put too much in, and I didn't rinse properly. It was better once it was dry, but I still felt I could smell it, then again I've got a big nose as well.
Baking soda & sea salt from supermarkets, and tea tree oil from health food stores, at least that's where I get it from.
lol, between the stuff marked "all-natural" and the stuff marked "organic" its hard to choose I make a strong tea of rosemary, peppermint, thyme, chamomile, rose-hips, and whatever else floats mah boat at the time (preferably fresh-picked). I add to this a bit of lemon or lime, some tea tree oil, some sea salt, and some ACV then boil for longer. I then strain and add baking soda till it won't fizz anymore, then soak mah head for about a half-hour, and rinse well. Tis the shiznit:cheers2:
I usually get my tea tree oil from Target by the vitamins, it's the cheapest place I can find to get it.
Yeah, I picked some up, mixed that, some baking soda, and some boiled sea salt into a big ass bucket.. can't really tell if it did anything though.
My favorite is: I use an empty Dr. Bronner's soap bottle, the biggest one (32 oz.) First, put a few drops (about 3) of peppermint oil in the bottle, a few drops of tea tree oil (about 4) and bit of hot water. Next, I add about 4 teaspoons of baking soda. I shake it & swirl it around so the baking soda mixes well & doesn't stay clumped up in the bottom of the bottle. Then I add about an inch (about 2 1/2 centimeters) of acv...maybe even a bit more. Fill half of the bottle with warm water (you want to leave room for the fizzing to happen). Shake/swirl it gently. When the fizzing goes down, fill the rest of the bottle with warm water (leaving some room so you can shake it all up). Pour it slowly onto your scalp. Work the mixture into your scalp really well. *Breathe* *Enjoy* Then pour it onto your dreads and work that in really well, but gently. Focus on how much you love yourself, just the way you are - including your hair Next, I wrap my head in a towel and leave it that way for about 15 minutes, then rinse really gently, but very thoroughly. * * * I like the idea of using sea salt and/or lemon juice and/or rosemary but I have extremely super-dry hair. So if I added anything besides the baking soda, tea tree oil, peppermint oil and acv, I would probably add some chamomile tea because it's gentle and smells nice. As for the acv, personally, I love the smell - but I have never noticed it lingering after I rinse it away. I find Bragg's organic & unfiltered acv fresh & wonderful, tho' it's a bit expensive, so when I'm tight on $ I just buy regular store-brand avc.
Don't know if this has been mentioned before, but a rosemary tea mixture works really well. You just boil about a cup or so of rosemary leaves in a few cups of water on the stove (the ratios can change, just make sure the water is tinted brownish at least a bit, and your house should start smelling of rosemary) then just pore on and rub in. helps with any dandruff issues as well. and you can rinse it out or leave it in, either way works.
I Assume We Should Wait Till It Cools Down Before Tipping The Lot Over Our Knotty Little Heads........ Cheers Glen.
haha yeah GlenGlen, it's probably best to wait for it to cool I usually stick in the fridge for a bit, if you wait too long though you end up freezing your head.
