Forgive me if I'm repeating anything because I didn't read through all the posts. That said don't get any kind of weapon, you don't need it. I started dealing when I was 14 too, and have been on and off ever since( I'm 33 now). The best defence is to know who you are dealing with and to be carefull about strangers knowing you deal and where you live. Don't bring lots of cash or large amounts with you on deals. Make sure you are very familar with any one you sell weight to. Be suspicious if one of your regular custies all the sudden wants a much larger amount then normal they may be setting you up. If someone tries to rob you with a gun let them, it's not worth your life. If they don't have a gun tell them to fuck off and jet out of there. All a weapon will do for you is add extra charges if you get popped. Brass knucks, pepper spray, knives, stun guns will all be taken by a stronger more experenced opponant and used against you. Even 4-5 teenagers with these kind of weapons are no match for a couple of grown men who have been around the block a few times. If you are smart about things this kind of thing won't come up. In the almost 20 years I have been makeing moves I have only been sucessfuly robbed once. It was by two guys at gunpoint and they took me for a half-elbow and a couple hundred dollars in my wallet. Looking back I shouldn't have put myself in that situation, as it was friends of friends of friends, but I got greedy. Haveing a weapon, even a gun, would not have helped in this case, but following my own rules would have prevented it.

And yes knowning gangsters with tech9's and ak47's usually means you have some sort of connections.
And if you stab somebody they probably wont die unless you hit a vital organ. Just do a quick jab in the stomach and they'll be running.
