Awww... it's just practice practice, hun. Muscle memory and increasing the strength in your hands. Learning to get a pure tone from the string without the 'buzz' sound that comes with a woosie grip on the neck.

The rest of it... once you get past that first bit... is learning a bit of music theory. For playing lead, there's also a bit of memory work. But it's all mainly PRACTICE. Unless you are like my roomie. He can just PLAY. Any stringed instrument. Pick it up the first time and play the hell out of it. Makes me want to pinch him.

When Denver lost their last superbowl, i was so irritated. Especially since everyone had an opinion on how bad they play and they were Deutsch folk, i felt like.. shut up, you know nothing!

Not this year, but under the same circumstances err last year now, but i think must have been 2013 when Jeff won at Martinsville i was in tears and shaking with 15 laps to go. Of course, he had been in that position every race, every year but lately nascar had bought out a dramatic finishing and often uncalled yellow flag. Like 2015 , he was winless until that race. It meant so much for me to see him win that race and amongst otner things in my life, the martinsville race always seemed to be run when ive had diversity to deal with in life. So to watch him win there last year, up in turn one, it meant so much to me, i dont think others could understand. Thats what sports and teams do with me. Thats why i call us a "we" with teams. We won, we lost etc. Its us, we and who i am too. My daddy says he used to be the same when he was younger, he says he would get very angry when teams lost etc.

When my Bulldogs lost the last 2 finals now, i hate my phone. It messages and rings from people who want to banter me. I am the biggest shit stirrer when my teams are winning, but i go into lulls when they lose. :d i usually get over it the next day but that night, it hurts. BTW i believe ive spent so much on team merch im literally paying teams. Thats why I am on the #24 team for sure. :) and got got a name on the hood to prove it.

The thing about guitar is, i HATE cover bands, with a passion, so, i just wanted to play my own thing. But, i had to learn easy songs etc. Which was uninteresting to me which made it frustrating and boring. So i would give up.

My main problem was i could not switch chords without the strings buzzing out of tune.

Yep... that's pretty common for new players. If you practice enough to get some callous to the tips of your fingers, it'll happen less and less. I learned on a cheap catgut stringed bull necked guitar that my parents bought across the border in Mexico. Dang thing was bigger than me. But, steel strings hurt my fingers and that guitar was cheap. It was a dumb move because if I'd practiced on a guitar that fit my hand better and had steel strings I would have developed callouses quicker and better hand strength. BUT... no matter what type of guitar you play... it'll be hours and hours and hours of practice sans some prodigy type genius. Keep at it. You'll get there.

I don't play guitar that often since RA happened. I switched to drums several years ago. I think it's in my Irish genetics to get so much joy from beating the crap out of inanimate objects.

and if you can sing even a little bit, it always sounds better with a guitar than with any other instrument (which of course I'm thinking of a piano). :)

Plus, if you are playing the guitar with the idea of eventually eventually singing with it, you can tune (tweek) it a little higher or lower to match your voice. Back in the day, before I forgot most of what I knew about playing the guitar, I would tweak it lower since I have a low voice. BLady is so right...its all about hours and hours and hours of practice, and getting those calluses.

By the time the calluses come, you know you can do a little something. :)

    Bodhran

I have a djembe that I put the goat skin head on and strung myself.

Hubby is a drummer; or he was when his hands worked.

Irmi! You drum for rain, too! Crow Dog of the 500 nations taught me the Rain Dance years ago. The first year we were here I drummed for rain. The sound boomed all over the valley and neighbors all thought I was bonkers. Now, they come ask if I'll drum for rain in the years that we need it.

Okay... this is scary. I opened a new window to search YouTube for a Celtic band that I like and it automatically had choices for Irish music along with the band that Aeri posted. BEFORE I typed in the search.

How the hell did that happen? Black helicopters? Should I get out my tinfoil hat?

They know what we talk about here.

Yeah, this band even got invited out to Hollywood to play at the premier of Lord Of The Rings.

We use to go watch them in the back room of a bookstore and outdoors at Pagan festivals.
