Lynn, i think you should practice your piano again and more often. I wish i was patient and had the ability to play an instrument. I have my hide drums, but you really just bang away on those.

 

Yeah, you can buy these discs (I think they're made of silicone) that go under furniture legs and make it pretty easy to move around on carpet.

 

That is why I was saying that you will need a stretcher/knee-kicker to re-install properly. You have to stretch the carpet over the little nails on those strips (and you may have to also replace the strips if they are too damaged from the water).

 

I only had to deal with water damage once when the big ice storm came and the hydro was off for days. It took forever to dry things out even with industrial fans going. Some things we could not save even using those. Thankfully insurance covered the costs and damages but it was still a pain to deal with.

It is pouring here so they are warning of possible floods. What a crazy time for strange weather.

 

yeah... hate the stuff. Especially if one has dogs or small children. There's really no way to ever get carpet clean. First thing we did when we bought this old farmhouse was rip out all the carpeting. They still had some of that nasty green shag carpet from the seventies in here. I'd rather live on bare concrete... which we did for a while until we got all the ceramic tile installed.

If that carpet has been soaked down to the padding it's probably growing icky mold underneath. Rip it out! Did you have flood insurance so you can afford tile instead of carpet?

Lynn, find the lowest point in the effected room(s) and use that as a central starting point and vacuum out from there or pull the water towards that spot and every hour or so go back and do it again.
Let gravity do the work of gathering the water as much as possible.

I'm on my fourth coffee so far today. I used to drink much less of it, but it has been steadily increasing since the baby showed up.
