Oh. My god. I'm going to have an ugly bruise on my right eye socket as I just collided with the spare bedroom wall and omg. Fuck. It hurts. =[ I've iced already. But, now I need a shower and like,
I dunno what it will look like tomorrow. Omg. I'm really devastated. If there's one thing about my relationship and even if it does sound quite.. pervasive. We never leave a mark on one another that would last days so this, this is like right out there. :D and I'm soooo self conscious about it now. Wahhhh

So while I stand here worried about my appearance, male friend says "that's a good one, be proud of that" and omg. Does that mean I'll have a bruise for week because that's exactly what it sounds like. Boys are always proud of scars. =[ fuuuuck

If it is possible, I would suggest shutting the door to the room that has the wet carpet, and opening the window and running a fan or two. You want to get the air moving around, and the dry air from outside will help it dry more quickly. Pulling the carpet up from the wall might work, but you'll need a stretcher or knee-kicker to put it back down tightly.

where are the helpful neighbors down south?

I have friends for almost any emergency and cant imagine being alone in a situation where a knowledgeable neighbor could be so useful....is it just me?...I know the phone numbers of every house within a kilometer of me....mind you that is only 10 or so houses but jeez.....a plumber can also fix rads....you do not need a heating specialist....all plumbers are radiator trained

also it sounds to me like the heating guy may have messed up by glossing over his instructions and not preparing lynn for this outcome by showing her the shut off.....

I hardly know anyone where I live. I guess back in NJ I have several contacts for help but I kind of like that I don't talk to anyone in VA.

Knowing the neighbours is handy. Last time we had a little flood issue, the neighbour's shop-vac was super helpful with getting rid of the water.

i have the same problem when i need help....im always the one other people call but when i need help it seems theres always no one available

fans and dehumidifiers should work but you have to do it right away...and like egg said a shop vac is great for getting most of the water out

If it isn't done quickly, you will probably end up having to pull all the carpet up to check for mold under the carpet/pad.

There is absolutely no one I know that could be of any help whatsoever. The son is gone now to the big national championship game between Clemson and Alabama in Arizona...not that he would really be any help. He will tell her something will HAVE to be done but she won't listen to him since he won't be saying anything she wants to hear.

Y'all just don't have any idea how stubborn and bull-headed my mother is. It is past indescribable. Since she isn't walking on it barefooted (or at all) and SHE CAN'T SMELL ANYTHING, she doesn't give a damn. not one little teeny tiny damn... I wound up running the little space heater all through the night and its running now.

This happened in the living room, where she has basically moved and taken over. It would be easier to set fire to this house than to be able to open a door, run fans or even try to pull up the carpet.

One little example...measuring the oil in the drum for the heater is the biggest pain in the butt in the world (not as big as the wet carpet but you get the idea). I measured how much oil was in it last week and it was 3/4ths full. She started annoying me about "I KNOW the oil is getting low 2 days ago. It needs to be checked". Reminding her of last week's amount did no good. This morning before I even had an entire cup of coffee, she started nagging on me again about it. over and over and over and over

So, I went down there and checked that @#$%&*@#$%^&* oil amount...it was well over half full, barely down from last week.

I get to go the grocery store today, so I will have at least an hour break. yay

I heard a puzzle on npr regarding measuring gas in a sideways cylinder style truck tank...you can use a stick to measure the halfway point but where should the mark be to measure the 1/4 point

I remember getting to Ontario and thinking it was weird that nobody had oil tanks. Not many people had natural gas out east at the time, not sure if that has changed now or not.
