Ultimately, listen to your hair. (lol, I sound like a fuck-tard saying that)
What I mean is, if your hair is dry, give your scalp time to work up a little natural oil. A little time, like a week or so.

I started mine the Backcomb method, then crocheted them. Not good for your hair, bc just like eeeverryoonee else said, damage...lots of it. I used a little vitamin e oil to help it from feeling so dry, but after the first two weeks I just left the fuckers alone. And the two weeks was just because that's how long it took me to get all of em. Almost a year later and I'd say they're doing pretty good. They feel healthy, they look healthy, and they smell nice. That's good enough for me.

Call my methods whatever you like, but that's what worked best for me.

    I wish you well op!

As you see, there are varying opinions on crocheting. Personally, I have no idea why anyone would do it, not because it's potentionally damaging (I never done it so I wouldn't really know whether it is or not), but because it looks like a real pain to do, and is of course, unnecessary imo. There are other easier ways of temporarily tidying up locks if it is "necessary" to do so.

Edit: If you really want to do though, screw what anyone here says, try it and then report on your experience with it. (I'm not advising you to do it, just to do what you want to do). One thing I can almost guarantee though, is if you do it and keep them for a long period of time, you'll probably wonder after a while why you bothered.
