I don't view most of those things listed as creative institutions, it's more like tools of aggression and dominance. Which explains the gender separation if you look at basic biology..

while i don't agree with your initial speculation that men are more creative than women, I did like your theory that women unable to have children and lesbians feel the need to create something (as they cannot create children). That would be a nice explanation why so many of my favourite female musicians are lesbians. But then again I know loads of straight girls (including myself) who are creative. But then again, maybe that's because we don't have children yet.

Ooh! Maybe once a woman has created a child she doesn't have as big of an urge to create other things; maybe she has felt like she has already created her masterpeice.

Yeah... I like that theory ^_^

Well not only that, it takes a lot of time and focus to raise the masterpiece. I think a certain amount of creativity has to do with time to think.

^^ I agree totally with that. That would be a nice explanation as to why so many mums I know have stopped painting etc

I think the average mind set of women draws them away from creating. ex. Boys grew up with Lego and building bird houses, girls grew up with dolls and what ever else.

Also, it seems threwout history men are more abundant in the creating feilds, although i dont think the talent is better or worse for either.

creativity is the inheirent aspect of our spirit that makes us human. without it, to call ourselves human is meaningless. and the two biggest things that rob us of it are the coerciveness of the rest of society, and the prolonged recreational, reguardless of the means of doing so, emparement of judgement.

the last may seem a bit ironic, as creativity would seem to require some degree of suspension of judgement, and in a sense it does. it certainly requires some suspension of reguard for gratuitously conventional expectations.

it also requires, at the same time, a certain degree of avoidance of self deception. ok, not always or absolutely, but it can and does help.

the whole sickness of our world today has at its root, the suppression of creativity, that may go back even further then our current culture of doing so.

the disincentive provided by romantacizing and rewarding aggressiveness doesn't help either, nor its misrepresentation as a kind of pseudo-maturity.

Not all girls were raised playing with dolls, you know. I was obsessed with Legos and Lincoln Logs and other creative outlets as a kid. I personally know MANY more creative women than men, and I theorize that may be because females are encouraged more to express themselves than males. Males are more often encouraged to suppress their feelings and roots for creativity. But I don't think that you can really state that women are more creative than men or vice versa. No matter how many studies are done, it's impossible to determine such a generalization.

I also think the idea that society or religion was developed out of creativity is absolutely ridiculous. It wasn't like a bunch of guys got together and they're the only reason life is the way it is. Don't take so much goddamned credit, there's PLENTY of women who've added more than their two cents to get us where we are today, and be glad you were born, by OH! A FEMALE.

i totally disaggree that feelings are at the root of creativity. but conversely aggree just as totally that the only thing what's between anyone's legs has to do with it is how they were raised because of it.

Something that I just remembered now, I was on the museum last week and I could almost 90% pf the time, tell before I checked if the work was done by a guy or a girl, I thought that was interesting I mean I didnt spend the whole time that I was there checking but whenever something caught my attention it was easy for me to say if it was a guy or a girl and I cant explain why or how I just did

Your post pisses me off and I'll tell ya why...

It is not a gender thing as most people say.

I'm a female and I've been creative all of my life. I'm in school to be a writer.

How many men do you see knit or sew or make jewelry or scrapbook?

Funny how many of the girls who disagree with the OP then go on to say how they know so many more creative girls than they do guys. They're arguing the same dumb argument as the OP only in reverse...

I think there's a difference in saying that I know more women that are creative than men, than saying that women are more creative that man I was illustrating how it all depends on the circumstances, I in no way think that any genger is more creative than the other, that rest on the individual person.

Like I'm more creative than my brother, but I have guy friends that are way more creative than me. It all depends on who we are talking about

Women have just as much to contribute as men, you just don't see it in history because this is a man-dominated world.

Everything, except birth, has been created by men. And for a birth, women need a man too.
Obviously men are creatively superior to females. Look at all the great works of art; 90-95% of them are created by men.

This in itself is proof enough that men are indeed superior.
