I like a wide variety of horror movies. I admit, cheesey horror has a great appeal for me, as do traditional monster movies like Dracula (the 1931 one). A Nightmare on Elm Street has to be one of my absolute favourites. Hallowe'en used to terrify me and I still love it. I adored American Werewolf in London for it's combination of humour, great music and gore. Ginger Snaps was amazing, I loved their unique take on a werewolf story. I enjoyed The Others for atmosphere. I loved the Scream Trilogy and even liked The Blair Witch Project. All in all, I think it takes a delicate balance of atmosphere, gore, originality and style to create a good horror movie. That being said, I'll watch almost any horror movie... I just may not like it.
mmmm ginger snaps, i have yet to see 2 and 3, but with a title like ginger snaps back im kinda hesitant. anyways if youve seen classic 70s exploitation movies, thehills have eyes would be brilliant to you too, that, last house on the left, i spit on your grave, these were movies coming out during a still somewhat flowerage, and these movies were huge reality checks, though many see the original hills as a TCM ripoff.
*awaits the stoning* I actually really disliked the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I love what it did for the genre, but as a film, it did nothing for me. But, that's just me. Last House on the Left and I Spit on Your Grave are brilliant, though. I'm so picky... Ginger Snaps was great. The two sequels were terrible, in my opinion. But quite often, I don't care for sequels. There are some exceptions, of course... (Terminator 2, Scream 2&3, Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness, Blair Witch 2 etc.) And I forgot the Saw movies, I loved them.
Oh I agree. I thought the forced breast feeding scene was far more disturbing. Overall, I'll have to say this movie was a piece of shit.
For the ladies, there are some movies with pretty sick man-rape scenes. "Deliverance" - goes without saying, "Fortune and Men's Eyes" has a least 2 or 3 prison man-rape scenes.
The rape scene in The Hills Have Eyes was nothing. Whats the big deal? I have seen many rape scenes in movies and that one has to be the least shocking of them all.
Smelly Socks, I didn't think the rape scene was all that bad. Try downloading some of those terrorist beheadings of a couple of years ago and experience real fear. some of those images and cries of pain still linger. Hotwater
i have never seen this movie but i wouldn't walk out of a movie just because of a rape scene. that is pretty much the point of horror movies..
Don't worry about people who walked out. So they can't handle the idea of seeing someone get raped. They shouldn't be expected to handle it. I can't handle it. I don't know why but I find it more disturbing than gore. Maybe it's the psychological scars it leaves on those involved, maybe it's an all too real occurance that people face and most of us want to watch movies to escape reality, maybe it's because it can be frustrating that there's nothing we can do about it. In any case, scenes like that vary a lot and some are easier to handle than others but if someone is upset by them for personal reasons I think they have every right. Feast of All Saints is probably one of the worst ones I've seen - although it was a good movie. But if you avoid horrific visuals you're going to be less immune to them, that's just how it works.
Have any of you seen Irréversible (2002) ? It's a french movie with Monica Bellucci directed by Gaspar Noe .... It has a brilliant rape seen (very well created!!!) .... this is not a horror movie, but it's worth seeing it if you like good cinema.
my friend is a film maker (i do location and post audio) and he had a horror movie about extreme right wing christians who kidnap people and torture them because they are sinners. they had a rape scene in it that was so brutal. i wasn't there for the shoot that day, but having to do the post audio and watch it over and over, was pretty shitty. too much of a bad thing, over and over.
I don't understand why rape in horror movies is so controversial. It's a HORROR movie. It's not supposed to be pleasant. Horrible things are supposed to be happening left and right. But like said before, no problem showing rape in Lifetime movies or primetime big television shows. People need to get over it - it's terrible, yes, but it's going to be an element in horror films whether you like it or not.
Exactly dances in pajamas... you said it. If people don't want to see shit like that, don't watch horror movies then.
Rape is more disturbing than intestines. I can take blood, in fact, I can take gallons of it, with brains and eyeballs galore, sure, no problem, but rape is so much more unsettling, at least to me. I've been wanting to see The hills have eyes, didn't know it had a rape scene, but I still want to see it.
I don't really remember a crazy rape scene in hills have eyes, the original had a nice one though, not as crazy as the one in last house on the left.
the problem with rape scenes in movies is that they're mainly shown from the man's perspective. this is why a lot of people watch them and think, "what's the big deal?" I've discussed rape in movies endlessly with my friends, and the consensus seems to be that a lot of men (and some women) feel uncomfortable because they get turned on, and then they feel like shit because of it. if the movies were showing it from the women's perspective, and actually trying to get an accurate portrayal of the unimaginable horror a woman feels while this is happening to her, they probably would want to barf, not get turned on. personally, when I see a rape scene in a movie I walk out. this is because until the movie companies stop glorifiying it, I won't watch it. this is just my opinion though, and I think everyone has the right to choose what they watch and what they don't.
