abolish all censorship, it's against the First Amendment. remember we should interpret the Constitution LITERALLY WORD BY WORD, it didn't say we should have exceptions on freedom of expression.
Children dont understand well enough to make there own decisions alot of the times, just my humble opinion.:sunglasse
my senior year of highschool (private catholic hellish place) they blocked myspace, diaryland and few other sites, but then a couple of the techie-kids found ways of getting around it, and they got together and sold the rest of us codes for five bucks that let us get around the school's system. ... that's all.
You are right about children: they don't understand well enough. I agree with you. However, we have to put constitutionality as supreme. Anything, even things that are beneficial to children and the society, cannot be implemented if it's not LITERALLY following every words of Constitution.
Umm since when do kids have any type of spiritual freedom or the freedom of speech needed to develop.....in highschool.....we are just drones in the system
Did they forget FREEDOM OF SPEECH! That is one of our constitutional rights! Schools yeah i understand. Library's that is don't get. This is Bullshit! I hate the goverment! I hate Bush!
Yea, actually it's kind of funny that so many people are discussing this issue without reading Constitution word by word.
here is a list of people who uphold freedom of speech, some of them you may hate...but they are all good people: Justice Hugo Black Justice William Douglas Justice John Paul Stevens Justce Clarence Thomas Nat Hentoff Barry Goldwater
On first amendment about freedom of speech: "No law means no law (to regulate speech)" --- Justice Hugo Black
Well I for one think like several others on here kids should be doing work on the computer if they are at school not playing or chatting the computer is supposed to be a learning tool when there not a play pretty That said libraries it is once again a tool a tool for education and research not chatting email and playing if you want to chat play and just surf the web go to a cyber cafe or at home on your own computers. The govt can say yes or no because they are govt funded schools and libraries. At a private school I know of they have full access to anything until the kids abuse the right they will continue to have free access. Thats the difference between public and privately owned schools and libraries.
Writing your congressman won't do any good at all. It's already too late. Very few of those assholes were actually elected by the people, and none of them pay any attention at all to what their constituants want. It is 100% big money, that's who they listen to. If there isn't big bucks in it for them they'll ignore public opinion completely.
Having worked for a library for ten years I find it hard to believe that the ALA would agree to this or let it gain legislation without resistance. It's always going to be a matter of individual public libraries allocating their resources. If legislation has actually passed I'd like a link to the text of the legislation. School districts are another matter.
