Let's not forget the possibility that this could be parallel to the JFK shooting. A secret govt. organization or mysterious foreign govt. organization, trained him, paid him heavily, and gets him off free, providing him with the tools he needs to remain separate from his old identity, and the public hears that he's in jail - or better yet, he gets shot on the way to trial. Then this horrific story is political ammo used to change gun laws, or even just a stunt to gauge the public opinion on gun laws.
I would rather have everyone who's forced to carry a weapon also be forced to stay high on marijuana to reduce the amount anyone uses or needs to use their weapon. I know the last thing I want to do when I'm high is make big loud noises and hurt people. ******DISCLAIMER********* That was a joke, not to be taken seriously. Although I do think it's a bit ridiculous to point to weed as an issue in gun control. I'd be much more worried about a society full of gun packing wino's painting the town red on a wild friday night. Also this :2thumbsup:
A lot of interesting posts and opinions, theories, etc. I, for one, am of the opinion that the shooter was just another nut job, someone who is quite intelligent, perhaps gifted, but apparently was never given the proper guidance for use of that gift, and consequently gave in to the evil influences that constantly attack our senses. There's no set explanation or reason for the evil that men (and women) do, it's simply just that: EVIL! From the creation of the world, mankind has fallen, and it is up to each one of us to at least attempt to reconcile that fall. Call it religion, or karma, or whatever you want, it still boils down to good vs. evil. The actions of the Colorado shooter were evil, no matter the shooter's background, political views, religion (or lack thereof), upbringing, etc. There's simply no excuse for the actions, and really no way to prevent another similar instance from occurring, without first eradicating evil from the earth. If you think you know how to do that, share it with the rest of the world. All I can do, as a Christian, is offer a better way of living by treating my fellow human beings with love and compassion, and speaking the truth when confronted by lies and/or evil. And I think that's about the best anyone can do. The truth can make you free, you simply have to seek it! eace:
"What distinguished Holmes wasn’t his offense. It was his defense. At Columbine, Harris and Klebold did their damage in T-shirts and cargo pants. Cho and Loughner wore sweatshirts. Hasan was gunned down in his Army uniform. Holmes’ outfit blew these jokers away. He wore a ballistic helmet, a ballistic vest, ballistic leggings, a throat protector, a groin protector, and tactical gloves. He was so well equipped that if anyone in that theater had tried what the National Rifle Association recommends—drawing a firearm to stop the carnage—that person would have been dead meat. Holmes didn’t just kill a dozen people. He killed the NRA’s answer to gun violence." http://www.slate.com/articles/healt...swat_gear_and_body_armor_refute_the_nra_.html
I agree with this partially but a ballistic vest doesn't make him invulnerable. Try getting shot with that on, it knocks the wind out of you and would at least give someone a chance rather than just doing the duck & cover routine.
broken ribs too. bullets carry lots of force and vests arent perfect. no matter, this is a rare and extreme case, and i agree, pulling a gun on this guy would have been difficult and probably a deathwish. i still believe that CCW rights are fundamentally good, but they need revamping and require more time in ranges and in classrooms if you want one.
It is unlikely he was able to learn how to make the bombs by himself. If you watch this clip: http://abcnews.go.com/US/colorado-shooter-james-holmes-appears-court/story?id=16834757#.UA197KCvm7s The police couldn't believe how well it was booby trapped. It is unlikely that he learned this by himself. It's at 4 minutes and 8 seconds into the video. In other news, Private Investigator Bill Warner has stated that he believes that he is apart of some blac bloc movement. James Eagan Holmes was wearing an outfit of black ballistic gear (Black Bloc style). There's also ideology parallels in the movie's bad guy and the black bloc movement. In the movie baine creates anarchy, kills cops, and kills rich people. The movement aids escaped convicts, they hate the rich, and they want anarchy. So there are some things that indicate that he was apart of the black bloc movement. Too early to tell at this point.
A fact that hasn't been mentioned here is that Aurora, Colorado is one of 13 cities in the state which ban concealed carry. Aurora is also the only city in Colorado which bans having a loaded gun in your car. James Holmes picked the worst (best in his mind) city to attack because he knew the government had disarmed the population, so he didn't need to worry about being shot at. The politicians, who have sadly made cities like Aurora a shooting gallery for people like James Holmes, attempt to call for more gun bans even knowing that the existing bans aided in the deaths of all those people at the theater. http://cofcc.org/2012/07/james-holmes-choose-city-with-worst-guns-laws-in-the-state/
hmmm It is all very sad.........but I find it ridiculous how the media immediately tries to jump on mental illness. Is it really that hard to fathom that a normal person could be capable of terrible things? From what i hear the guy had a pretty normal childhood and was living a pretty normal life with no real signs of mental illness and then he decided to let bitterness and hate take over and shot a bunch of people. This is not to say a mentally ill person could not take that path as well, but to assume its always mental illness only creates more stigma against people who are actually struggling with mental illnesses and sterotypes us as ticking time bombs waiting to explode.
This thread makes me laugh. Can't we all just accept the fact that people are fucking wacked outta their skulls?
I agree with this statement. Except when the WACK jobs start killing people it's natural for people to evaluate the situation and try to think of ways to prevent it from happenin again. Unfortunately, I think that all of the publicity can have a huge negative effect. I heard through friends in Colorado, that two of the victims were veterans....so now Westboro Baptist "Church" is planning a trip to protest their funerals. One news channel vowed not to give those bastards any coverage, and is persuading the other channels to do the same. I hope they all follow ship, because those people don't deserve any recognition.
Oh really Westboro Baptist church is coming to the denver area?..., it should be fun counter protesting them if they do.
^Thats what I hear. I think it was channel 9 that mentioned it briefly. Warning the so called "church" that they wont get any validation. If they do show up I have plenty of friends and family that will be there to block them off.
^I agree that the term "mental illness" is thrown around too much in place of the word/term psychopath instead which is more specific. But I do not agree with not looking at the possibility of someone's mental health in regards to tragedies such as these because you are afraid of making a sterotype. People make sterotypes, we know it's an over generalization fallacy, but we do it anyway and most of us are guilty of doing so at least once in our lives. Science has hypothesized it is a survival tactic to recognize danger and safety, and in modern day we just need to be aware of it and judge people on a case by case basis. Most normal people don't go creating chaos or have an intention to hurt people to prove a point. How one is brought up and raised is only a bit of the story. To be fair you have to look at other factors in a person's environment and acknowledge that genetics play a role too. --- In acknowledgement to the Westboro Baptist church, they misrepresent scripture all the time with quotes like "god hates you", I really don't see how they can call themselves Christians.
Is the westboro baptist church those stupid fucking shit eating asshole fuckface dickheads that protest fallen soldiers funerals and what not?
Yup that's the same group alright. They're part of the reason Christians have a bad reputation right now.
That WBC is based in a quiet residential neighborhood in Topeka, KS, [visit google maps and type 3701 Southwest 12th Street Topeka, 66604, go to street view(grab the little yellow man and place him on the "A" bubble)] and they use an army of lawyers to remain untouchable. When visiting Topeka, a local showed me their place in person, and told me there's not one person in the neighborhood who wants them there. Visit [http!!!www!godhatesfags!com] and see: "God sent the shooter - Again..." "Thank God for the Aurora, CO, shooter. Where is your fear of God?" They are pretty insane... If you are planning on counter-protesting, do not speak to them and definitely do not touch them. This might be pretty bad but I looked at their list of 'sister sites' and laughed when I read www!PriestsRapeBoys!com.
why cant people understand that banning guns is only going to move more guns to the black market.Because no one that wants illegal drugs ever get any.
The 1986 comic, written and drawn by Frank Miller, was a key inspiration for the Chris Nolan Batman films. It helped to reimagine the character away from his Saturday morning cartoon image and into a dark, grim avenger. The point of this particular scene in the comic was to show just how far Gotham has fallen since Batman had retired. Was the shooter imitating this scene from the comic? Maybe, although in the scene the shooter is portrayed as inspired by his disgust at pornography and heavy metal music.
