Depends on the person, and how much training he or she has with their concealed or open carry firearm.

Of course not everyone practices with their concealed gun of choice, but i do, and i believe that most do as well.

Carrying a weapon around in society, you must be very strong minded, you must never over react, you must never fire first. You must be willing to step in the frontline to protect those who are about to be hurt. It is a last resort, to pull out your 9mm or whatever you carry and fire. It is not something to show off to your friends. The times i do carry, i don't tell anyone, unless im with someone who is carrying as well.

Public defenders have different mentalities, and think about these situations much different than those who are not.

Me saying a mother should be packing...well i should word that differently..point is if one is trained in basic combat and is willing to put their life on the line, i do believe lives could be saved, the colorado shooting is a great example.

I think the gun argument, very much like the drug argument, comes down to the fact that you cannot accurately say that some people won't use their weapons responsibly. You can't take away a right that someone has because other people misuse it without it being an injustice to the person who uses it responsibly.

Just like drugs, those of us that use them responsibly feel oppressed by the fact that our responsible drug use makes us criminals. If guns aren't legal the responsible, law abiding, gun owner's right are taken away while the irresponsible, gun trafficking criminals flourish. Either that or the former rids himself of his law abiding status in order to maintain his right to use a weapon responsibly.

You can't simply assume that all people are out for blood. Indeed the assumption must be towards innocence before enough evidence is supplied to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that a crime has been committed. To assume that all people will use their guns irresponsibly and to legislate based on that assumption is to condemn those people and punish them all for a crime which the vast majority of them were never going to commit in the first place.
