Are most of us finally ready to move on to discussing the general election? These primaries are pretty well wrapped up, and the results match what I was predicting in February. There was a little drama along the way, but it didn't change anything.

I can't believe this poll only has 14 votes so far.

Back in February I said something like, "if it comes down to Clinton VS Trump, there's going to be a lot of people not voting..."

... which means that Trump really could win. :bigcry:

I think we'll see a larger percentage than usual go third party this election. It should be interesting.

Who's going to run third party who has any name recognition? Nobody yet.

Who do I predict? I predict Trump will win. The thing is, even if the traditional GOP guys don't like Trump, they will still vote him over Clinton. Also liberals near the fence might vote Trump because he is not the traditional GOP right winger, and many who are sick of political correctness, and sensationalist social justice warriors.

Oh dont get me wrong, i dont think any of them are known enough to actually win

But Gary Johnson has enough name recognition to take a fair amount of votes from Trump - a lot of republicans who arent insane enough to vote Trump may feel the Johnson

And i think a lot of Bernie suporters will give their vote to Jill Stein rather than Hillary.

Anyone who wanted Bernie as the Democratic nominee would be crazy to not vote for Hillary. I just voted for Bernie, and will not hesitate a nano second to vote for Hillary if she gets the nod.

Voting Independent is just throwing away your vote and giving the advantage to the Republicans, as is not voting at all.

Do we really want a Republican president? When was the last good Republican President in office, Eisenhower? Check the record.

Not to mention we need to clean them out of Congress.

Bernie, Hernie, Hirnie, Hilnie, Hillie, Hillae, Hillar, Hillary

Maybe, somehow, they just don't have any idea what's in the Republican party platform. I don't have any idea how that's possible, but I don't have another explanation. There's not a single item in the GOP agenda that isn't a steaming pile of shit.

So the Koch Brothers have hinted that they will be able to work with Mrs. Clinton.

This says more about Trump than about Mrs Clinton.

Hillary is the adult in the whole primary scene.

I read about the economic disasters in Brazil, Venezula, Cuba and elsewhere. Adults do not Bernie and his opiate of communism and statisim.

Piney, you don't make a lot of sense. Especially that last sentence or is it just me? :p

    I really hope so.

I strongly disagree it is throwing your vote away. Standing by your principles and using your vote to carry that out is never throwing it away, even when it is certain the one your voting for doesn't have a chance to get elected.
You guys really don't get it (imho): there are more options. They just don't get results on the short term.
Voting against Trump/the republicans is merely voting against the worst option. Keeping the status quo going. Maybe it is easy for me to say because I am 1) relatively young and 2) not even american but I would say fuck this democratic candidate if it was not your first option in a long shot.
All these sensible people voting as if they have lost already, it is just pathetic. If they would all use their vote progressively it could really instigate a change. These 'third parties' (kind of says how much use they have atm :p) really could mean much more for your democracy. Not primarily by geting a president in the white house, and not if 99% of american voters believe everything is lost if one of the 2 big parties doesn't get their vote. Whoo abortion, gay rights, I vote democratic! There's no other option. Disgusting.... Is this proper democracy?

If voting for a third party candidate draws votes away from Hillary and allows Trump to be elected as President it would be a very foolish thing to do.

Bernie and Hillary aren't very far apart on most issues: both favor a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrates and support Obama's executive actions on immigration, both favor a Constitutional Amendment for campaign financing, both are for gay rights, both want stricter gun control, both want to raise the minimum wage, they both oppose the Keystone pipeline, both want increased solar panels and renewable energy, Hillary supports The Affordable Care act and health care reforms, Bernie wants single payer health care and other reforms, both want to invest heavily in education, Hillary wants to reschedule Marijuana to a lower level Bernie wants to allow states to decide, both want to abolish private prisons, both want to protect and or expand Social Security, both oppose the TPP, both favor women's rights for abortion, both want to keep religion out of government, and so on.

There are differences but they are minor compared to what Trump wants.

Trump opposes women's rights, is against gay rights, wants religion involved in public issues, wants no new gun legislation, wants to eliminate the EPA the Department of Education, and the Affordable Care Act (knocking 21 million off of health care), wants to carpet bomb the Middle East oil fields, supports torture "a hell of a lot worse than waterboarding", wants to deport all 11 million undocumented immigrates, ban all Muslims from entering the U.S. except military personal and his friends and build a wall across the Mexican border, he was forced into disavowing the KKK after first refusing to do so, he wants the Keystone pipeline but doesn't want renewable energy, he doesn't believe in Global Warming, etc.

So why would I vote for a third party candidate with no chance of winning instead of supporting a viable Democrat who I mostly agree with????

You're focusing only on what can be accomplished between now and November. It takes a lot longer than that to build a viable political movement in a country this size. If Bernie starts working this winter to help his followers find other like-minded candidates for President and other important elected offices, they stand a chance of winning some races in two or four years. This November? Forget it. Lost cause.

You can't focus too much on the top office. Nobody can accomplish much without control of the congress. That's just the way the system is set up.

Reasons i'm voting third party since you guys don't get it

1 - i live in a red state. A very red state. Even if I voted for Hillary, it wouldnt matter. But if a third party candidate gets a large enough percentage of the overall vote they become eligible for federal funding. Therefore, in my state voting for a third party candidate actually does make a bigger impact than voting Democrat.

    2. I am not a Democrat so I am not beholden to any candidate.i have no party loyalty. I decided after voting Obama in 08 and not being very impressed (i know - he faced a lot of opposition. I think he was a decent president But there are reasons i found his performance lackluster that arent suitable for discussion in this thread) that i wouldnt vote Democrat again unless a very special candidate came along.

    3. Hillary is not a special candidate. Her various views on the issues may look fine on paper, but she has a history of corruption and she, like most wealthy politicians, is beholden to her donors at the end of the day. Also, she is a centrist. She will do what a good Democrat is supposed to do in regards to wedge issues but she will never enact the real change this country needs.

    4. The argument that voting third party will take votes away from Hillary doesnt really stand this election. Gary Johnson is likely to syphon more votes from Trump than Jill Stein will from Hillary.

    5. How long do we have to keep playing this lesser of 2 evils political game. We cant stop this election because the more evil candidate is worse than normal? So when?

An addendum: i'm hoping to see both parties implode soon.

I do get it; I'm just going in a different direction. I'm in a state that swings both ways in presidential elections.

Could you please explain what this corruption is that Hillary was involved in and give us some proof of her involvement and illegal activities?

The GOP has been smearing her for years and I find it disturbing when people repeat the crap the GOP have been dishing out without backing up their claims.

She's an arrogant bitch, soulless, dishonest and a liar. She was criticized for refusing to sit back and behave like a good little wife when Bill was in office, was blamed for his infidelity and was merely calculating when she stood by him. She was involved in the murder of Vince Foster and an unspecified number of others, and her law firm records were missing...all a bunch of hooey. Travelgate turned out to be nothing, as well as her alleged use of the FBI and IRS to harass the White House Travel office. Filegate was bogus, as well as her stealing the White House silverware.

All a bunch of made up shit.

Then they accused her of selling secrets to China, having ties to The Muslim Brotherhood, and her parents supposedly supported al-Qaeda, not to mention her involvement in Watergate. And horror of horrors, when young she wrote a letter to Saul Alinsky.

Let's not forget that she was personally responsible for the killing of four Americans at Benghazi and after 11 hours of testimony before The House at a cost of $5,000,000...nothing was found (there were 3 Americans and 63 others killed at American embassies under G.W. Bush)....., so then they went after her because she dared to legally store unclassified documents that were later classified on a legal server.

On and on, this is just a sample of the garbage the GOP has thrown at her.

Please verify these charges for me or site the other corruptions she was involved in and the facts behind your allegations.

TBH I'm actually looking forward to the first debate between Clinton and Trump

It will be interesting to see how they answer questions about their alliances and partnerships of the recent past. Since Trump donated a fortune to Hillary's senate campaign and the Clinton foundation.
