Sanders is not running for absolute dictatorship. As president, all he could do is ask Democrats in Congress to pass a new plan, which he would sign into law. Like the Affordable Care Act, the new bill would evolve slowly, with input from a lot of people, TV discussions, etc. Do you remember how long it took for Obama's plan to come to a vote? Lots of changes were made in an unsuccessful effort to get some Republican support. It dragged on for months. What Bernie's talking about seems more like the plan that Obama proposed during his first campaign, and the one Hillary pushed for when Bill was in office; the kind that you see all over Europe. Bernie hasn't said a word about Social Security.
Yes, Sanders is a small-ish (certainly not as slight as Kucinich), but he's loud and passionate. It's like Doc Brown compared to George McFly. But I hear ya on the commentator point. I frequent a political site (alan.com) that is run by Alan Colmes, the current token Liberal on Fox. I see no problem with that, just like I don't think Michael Steel is secretly on the Democrats side on MSNBC.
Along with many others, I'm wondering if we'll see a Sanders/Warren ticket. If so, we'll have an extremely competent and trust-worthy woman to vote for after Sanders is done.
Actually, he has. For years. From December... of 2014: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4w7NFTnLQt8 And this is an ad released just a couple days ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c4e9yiuKAmY
My heart says Bernie all the way! My brain says vote Hillary just so there's less chance of Trump! (Although who really knows for sure?)
Well, depends on who you ask. And if it's the people who take polls, then Bernie has a much better chance of defeating Trump (or any Republican, for that matter) than Hillary does.
I just don't buy that. The repubs will tout sanders as a socialist to red staters, and his chances are dimished.
Thank you for clarifying that. I think I understand now. He doesn't intend to change Social Security, or at least not decrease it.
Look up the pardon of Mark Rich, the day Clinton left office and how they have fared since being "broke" when they left office, as Hillary has said. It's on Salon today. Defines their character/s in a way that has not been mentioned yet. I suppose I'll vote for her if she bests Bernie and is the nominee---but I won't like it. AS far as republicans go--(and they've gone WAY too far)-----you get a blustering , lying , childish fool, or you get the American version of the Taliban. In order to actually HAVE morality, one must have empathy for those less fortunate than themselves---which republicans lack now and of which they've always come up waaaaay short.
And how cozy do you think those same Republicans would be towards Hillary? Especially when considering that there are already Republicans saying they would vote for Bernie. (Granted, some of those are saying they'd vote for Bernie if Trump doesn't get the nomination, which is weird... but hey, votes are votes.)
Sanders, and trump have more in common than you think. Sanders needs to focus on other things besides big bad wall street. It gets old after awhile.
Did you watch the debate? While Bernie did talk about big bad Wall Street, he addressed other things as well. Like health care, education and the war on drugs. And yeah, there is some commonality between Trump and Sanders, I was just saying that it's weird to think of someone who would like Trump as someone who would support Sanders, much less anyone that isn't a rage-style Republican.
They are already doing that. And these voters don't bother to understand that Democratic Socialism does not equal Soviet Russia. There are many examples of European countries that are "socialist" but they have all the rights and freedoms Americans thinks are exclusive to them including elections if you don't like the people in office. It's the same lie that has been told since the 50's. Accept the system just as it is America because the only possible alternative is to be like the Russians. At least in the 50's the tax rate on the wealthy was much higher. A rate that people would never accept today but was America "Communist" in the 50's? Far from it. The Greeks figured it out a long time ago. You would not have your success without Athens therefore those with success have a greater burden to Athens.
So Clinton is now going to go after tax loopholes including off shore accounts like the Cayman Islands... I wonder how she's going to protect her own family's use of these loopholes. I think there's something she's not telling us... Again!
I read about this. She wants to charge an exit tax for companies who move their business out of the country for tax benefits. Sanders says: So you know that the Citizens United won't want him to be elected. He wants to overturn it so that corporations can't finance campaigns unfairly. Big business probably likes Hillary Clinton compared to Bernie Sanders. They will do whatever it takes to endorse themselves.
CNN New Hampshire poll released today.....Sanders is crushing Clinton in NH...60% to 33%. I hate to jinx it but some media outlets are now calling his lead in that state "insurmountable". Last poll I saw of Iowa (a couple of days ago) had him in the lead 49%-44%. I'm hearing/reading some polls that still say HC is up by a lot in national polls but others that only have her ahead nationally by 4%-7%. A couple of days ago on The Young Turks they were saying that he is supposedly polling ahead of HC on the west coast and in some other areas of the country. Who knows which polls are correct.....but I bet the Clinton team is a little concerned right now.
^polls only include registered democrats, as far as I know. Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I understand "official" polls only poll registered democrats with a landline. There is huge potential from independent voters and basically anyone under 50 who sees no use for a landline.
