When they find planets they're basically waiting for a shadow to pass a sun. If they see a shadow they declare it a planet and then make a representation of what they think it might look like then tell us its another earth like planet.

As for TESS, just under $300 Million cost, it's 3/4 of the way into its working life. It's only found 35 exoplanets so far, the boffins pre launched claimed it was going to find 10s of thousands.

To claim "earth like"

Orbital radiius and density is all they know. That infers a planet is in the supposed Goldilocks range

They have no idea whether one of those planets is just a rock or not

TESS was launched by spacex, and a lot of the data nowadays is analysed by Universities that are technically under the NASA umbrella, but they are not really NASA

Basically privatizing out a whole bunch of stuff is going to introduce a whole lot of corporate bullshit. Not like you are ever going to hear Elon Musk say; you know what, we don't have to bother getting paid for this launch, that satellite isn't going to really find anything.

There is a reason we are still yet to see the raw data from the EHT and why the raw images from TESS are so hard to find

Click on a news story about a newly found earthlike planet, and it contains a picture that's looks like a screen shot of a commodore 64 game, you'd be like dafuq?

 

When you put it like that it sounds even more bullshit than I imagined it to be in the first place.

 

All that's meant to be inferred from "Earthlike" is that it's in the habitable zone. You know...like Earth.

 

The moon is also in the habitable zone.

 

And people have dreamed of colonizing it for centuries. Actually, didn't you know? The Annunaki built it and have a base on the far side. And the inside is full of negro slaves.

But even that is based on the assumption that it scales. A planet half the size of earth orbiting a sun half the size of our own orbiting at a certain distance has any chance of actually being habitable. Which may not at all be true. It's just an assumption they pull out of their ass

Plus you need an iron core and the right kind of magnetic field to know everything hasn't vaporised off the surface, for it to have any chance of being habitable

 

It's usually a star they find and not a planet.

 

All that's meant is that it's in the right spot to possibly be habitable.

I have an idea for a movie where we kinda do that and then one day aliens discover all of our trash and they start to piece all this trash together and eventually discover where it all came from and they think humans are gods (kinda reverse history lol) and then when the aliens reverse our technology to be able to reach us, when they land they are greeted not by gods but by an earth inhabited by rednecks and bogan's.

Eventually the aliens realise we are just trash and have been filling up their home with trash and then they start a war with humans sending all of our trash back to us.

Well, they say something in our solar system exists to throw the weird orbits of some of the outer planets. Of course it will be planet Nibiru. not a doubt on my mind, the first civilisation already knew it and we are only going to learn lost knowledge soon. Age of Aquarius.
