Maybe the south were the first who shot, but they were forced to it by the north. I find it ridicilous that states can't get out of the federacy if they want to. Reminds me of communist Russia. It's understandable the north didn't wanna split with the south though, would be very beneficial for countries like France and England indeed.

Nope. Go read a Civil War history book written before 1917 and you will learn the real reason. Lincoln signed a secret alliance with Czar Alezander II. At that time Russia had the largest standing Army in the World as well as one of th largest navies. Matter of fact the bulk of the Russian fleet spent most of the war near the East Coast. The other part was sent to help patrol the west coast. The Czar clearly made this known to France and England and threatened to attack them if they messed with the USA.

Czar Alexander II freed the serfs(Russian equivalent of slaves) and decreased the power of the Russian aristocracy when he took the throne. He even wanted to turn Russian into a Parlimentary Democracy. He and Lincoln had worked out mutual assistance treaties(ie military and economic, developement etc) that were to be implemented after the end of the Civil War. Unfortunately Lincoln was killed and Johnson was jackass that didn't want to follow Lincoln's plan. Many historians agree that European history would have been vastly different if the US and Russia had been able to follow through on their plans.

btw: Czar Alezander was assasinated by British agents after the war.

All this info was removed from school history books following the 1917
    Communist Revolution.

As for flags... The Swastika is banned in Germany so many Neo-Nazis use the Confederate Battle flag instead. The Stars and Bars was not the National Flag of the Confederacy nor was Dixieland the national anthem. The National flag was the Bonnie Blue flag which consisted of a Navy Blue background with a single white star in the middle. Hence the title of their National anthem was The Bonnie Blue Flag.

Definitely bigger than that! I also dislike it when people look at the rebs just as slaveowners and racists. It's a bummer.

So what's your source then? I thought it is save to assume Alexander II was assassinated by russian revolutionaries. He had an awful luck at a lot of attempts, but in the end they blew his legs off in the streets.

Read just about any history book published before the Red Revolution. Russia's role in the Civil War was completely censored from history books following 1917. The info was from a book review but I can't remember the title off the top of my head.

Evidence seems to indicate that Czar Alexander II was assinated by British agents.

This goes back to the whole argument of state rights all the way back to the why the articles of confederation failed. States do have the right to leave with the consent of the other states, but you give states the right to leave the union whenever they want it makes the federal government a useless hostage to all the different states. Case in point aside from the articles of confederation the Nullification Crisis with South Carolina around 1830.

This is also one of the reasons historians point out helped the south lose the war, states obviously under the confederate constitution were given more powers then their union counterparts and many states were often reluctant to give more aid for the war to the central government of the confederacy fearing they would lose their own power.
