holy cow a well thought out and typed and formatted post. sometime i'll have to come back to read it. I only got up to the part about "water and spirit". aren't we ALL born of water and spirit?? blood too? And this got me thinking about the catholic theory that God accepts baptisms not only of water but of blood and also (whew!) desire. Leaves a lot of room, fortunately, for others. Like "the holy innocents" babies who were slew when Herod had every child under 2 years old SLAIN by knife or hands or whatever!!! *(bricks and stones?) anyway, you don't think they ARE ROASTING in HELL do you??? do you? if not, WHERE THE FUCK ARE THEY?? sorry I get a little carried away. nothing personal.
epiphany, arlia and bree, I mean. I hope my above post didn't create any bad feelings. cheers!! lots of love and laughing out loud.
lmlo. which of the above girls caused this post of woe which made me laugh so ahrd i almost lost my lungs. good luck.
sorry that this is my third OT post here in a row but this comment by blackguradxIII had to be noted. LMAO. this is a very difficutl thread to follow.
you know what...most of the people who post constructive things in here are idiot savants...i just realized that im still not sold on Paul though, and well whos to say God doen't look like Krsna so, whatever...im im wrong, you can tell me i told you so [but not in a mean way] please please do it when im buring in hell
Epiphany, honey - i have no problem you leaving the way you want to live, but what you're doing is a form of harrassment, and you should stop it. I feel highly offended by your post, and am in two minds to report you for it.
mate, this is the INTERNET. we are not governed by china, north korea or any other place sympathetic to the OPPRESSION of free fuckin speech. This is a CHRISTIANITY forum, mr/ms "celebrate diversity"! jeez. for cryin out loud.
she's the one that's against everything I stand for - she's the one telling us to do as she does, or go to hell, and I find that highly offensive. Sure, she's got freedom of speech, but I disagree, I find it offensive, so I'm going to say so.
well w0d I guess we have to respectfully disagree. But I'm curious to know how the mods will respond. It just that you can avoid her posts pretty easily, can't you? Why don't you try the "Block Poster" feature I'm sure it works real well. oh, and if you're into the paranormal you probly know about coasttocoastam with Art Bell right? if not, check it out. it's GREAT.
That isn't the water and spirit that I am speaking of I am not sure that anyone can honestly admit that they believe the Lord would subject a child, lacking the ability to understand, to his judgement.
I have been around here for six years. I am aware of the rules. First and foremost, this is a forum in which we are able to discuss Christianity. I chose to post this subject matter here because it relates to Christians. If I had posted it in the atheist forum then I could see how it might need to be made note of. Throughout this entire section of Christianity, you will find people stating what the Bible says. That is what I have done. Now, had I followed you around the board and made statements along the lines of going to hell for non belief, then yes, that would certainly be offensive. However, If you read through the entire thread, you will find that I have made any mention of the word hell, nor do I condem anyone because I am not the Lord. The thread does not make regards of anyone's name, nor does it speak of anyone imparticular. You have stated that what I posted goes against everything you stand for. Throughout this forum there are posts that go against what I stand for. I keep in mind that this place was created for debate and discussion. As the rules state, this is a freeh speech forum. As long as what it is being said is not a direct attack or threat towards a member, then the guidelines state that it is acceptable. I have not belittled you, nor have I made any blatant comments stating that your views are wrong within the post in question. You have the freedom whether or not you wish to believe in God.
I have been told I am off to hell so many times I lost count years ago....does it bug me? No.....why would it? I choose not to let that judgement upset me or affect me in any way. Maybe theyre right, and if so, I'll see ya down there, if you get there first, save me a good seat......... I only get offended when someone slanders or libels me or one whom I care about so grievously and falsely that it could cause character or reputation damage. It is a rare time that I don't just consider the source and figure that others will also do so. Are you truly offended that Christians feel we're gonna fry? If so, why? I couldn't care less myself.
Epiphany, What you wrote was great — informative and well written. I just want you to know that every word you typed was well worth it. It's just what I needed to hear right now. I am a Christian, but not yet baptised. Last year God spoke to me (I'm pretty sure) and said to me the word 'mission'. I'm not really sure what he intended of me, but ever since then I've been trying to follow his instruction and this has led me to get a lot more involved in my church and to try and to help more people and be more charitable. This new involvement in my church led me to consider the issue of baptism, which is something I've never even considered until lately. I have been thinking about getting baptised, but didn't want to make a rash decision about it because I wanted to be sure that I was ready. After reading everything you wrote I feel almost certain now that I want to be baptised. I also found what you said about the holy spirit and speaking in tongues fascinating. I'd always thought speaking in tongues was a biblical thing that people didn't do anymore. Obvioulsy I was wrong and people still do it today. Could you tell me what it sounds like? Or would describing it be offensive/sacrilegious? In summary, I learnt a whole lot from what you said. Don't let anyone here discourage you from further spreading this important information. I am by no means at the stage of being able to preach, since my faith is still in its infancy. But I hope that one day when I am wise enough I will be able to pass on what you said to other people. People dissing Epiphany, I believe in freedom of speech. So shut up! Seriously... if you don't like to hear other people's opinions, logging onto a Web forum is a big mistake! And if you simply think that Epiphany is wrong then please do everyone a favour and point out what she got wrong, and why, instead of just insulting her. Insulting someone you disagree with doesn't make you look clever. It just makes you look like you have no counter-argument, and you end up looking stupider than ever.
poof ... if there are no exceptions, there are no exceptions. Just rethink baptism I guess. or what Jesus really meant. Might be kinda hard to understand today, though, after all the years and the translations ("to translate is to destroy") and stuff like innate human ignorance that separate us from Jesus of Nazareth. After alll. ... Didn't even the APOSTLES sometimes not know what the Heck Jesus Was Talking about??? BONUS Q: Abt Baptism: Here it is: why doesn't baptism actually make ppl better? (nb: pls do not ref. St. Augustine saying that curing us of original sin would take away free will. I don't believe that crapola. Try another route. PLEASE....) waiting
I am so very glad to read this post . I do thank you, but I cannot take credit because it was holy ghost inspired. God's message is for everyone, but it always amazes me how the specifics of time and place come about. This message was directly intended for someone, but I did not know who or when. It is very difficult to give justice with a human description of baptism. The best way I can describe it is by using the words, "elation", and, "euphoria". Upon first contact with that water, chains are broken. It's almost as if you are recieving the greatest massage of your life and years of tension, stress, heartache and grief are being rubbed away. After you are baptized, please come back and share your experience! All tongues honestly sound different. The best example I can offer would be this. There are certain times that I turn on the radio and do not know a specific song, but, because of the distinction in the singer's voice, I at least know who it is. It is the same way with tongues. Each person has a distinct sound with their own tongue. Many people believe that it is pure muttering, but if you listen closely, what is being said would be extremely difficult to reproduce every single time. Also, if you hear people speaking in a foreign language, their word count is much faster than english. Tongues are the same way. The words are pronounced more rapidly. Thank you for your words of encouragement. To be honest, my journey is still at the beginning stages as well. I have only been in Christ for a year now, yet the healing and deliverence I have recieved has been more than expected in such a short amount of time. When you possess the Spirit, God's words begin to flow. What you may not have understood once is now comprehendable. In the past I have looked at passages in the Bible and thought to myself, "What does this stand for." Looking back at those same passages now, I can say, "Ahh, so that what the message the Lord was trying to convey." One thing I do want to make note of is that if you do not recieve the Spirit immediately after baptism, do not be discouraged! Some come up out of the water in tongues, others, like myself are not filled right away. I was baptized in November of 2003 but did not receive the bapstism of the Spirit until February of the following year. It's a promise from the Lord and when it happens it is indescribable. By the way, I remember your name from long ago.
Actually, there have been instances where people have been cured during baptism. For example, a friend of mine had a leg length discrepency (one leg much shorter than the other). She had to wear special padding to be able to walk properly. Many people undergo surgical procedures for this deficiency and yet they still must wear the pads. When she came out of the water, she no longer had use for them. However, there really is nothing in the Bible stating that upon baptism in water you will be miraculously cured. Baptism is a physical act of renouncing your life of sin. Just as Christ died to this world when he took his last breath on the cross, when we are baptized, we are saying that we are dying to the kind of life we lived before. There really is no such thing as, "curing original sin". We still sin. We will still continue to sin up until the day we die. It is human nature. Gah, I hate to sound rude but honestly the Catholic church grossely altered apostolic rule (what I meant by 325 A.D.)
