I hate when people say you should give illegal immigrants those jobs nobody wants because it dosnt pay enough. If they cared so much about these people why do they want them to get taken advantage of vy farmers unable/unwilling to pay a decent wage.

over the weekend me and my friends were talking about how different schools are in the states... one of them is american, and actually went to school in the states, and said it's literally how it is on tv and in movies, and we're all like wtf... i thought that was just for entertainment purposes

Like, are kids there really that split up? The jocks, nerds, popular kids, geeks, etc? I can't speak for the rest of the world, but I think thats typically an american thing... Even in Canada it's not really like that, well around here at least...

We had no 'jocks' or 'popular kids' at my school... sure some people played sports, but they weren't jocks... sure people were smart but they werent in a group of nerds... there were a few weirdos and geeks, but they still hung out with the same people we all did, etc..

Literally everyone in my grad class new each other and was friends with each other, or at least acquaintances.. like there were no groups or social statuses.. we were all equal basically

It really surprised me that he said schools were really like that there, i thought it was just a tv/movie thing for entertainment... if we lived in the states, i wouldn't be friends with any of my friends? I have a friend that would be a jock, some that would be nerds, some that would be the popular outgoing ones, and then there'd be me... probably in that stoner/skipping class group lol

whereas here... literally every group of friends is filled with all sorts of different people, like my group of friends, we're all so different from eachother and all do different things, literally nothing alike... but thats what makes it fun to hang out with them

then again, maybe it was just this one american school thats like that, he only went to one high school there...

There are not cliques in Canada? That is surprising to me. My high school had them, but people would be friends with people in other groups. The only time this would not be acceptable would be if you were one of the top crest popular kids and then if you want to remain popular you better hang with your own kind only.

Some people end up really left out though. I mean every time we have a school shooting and there have been so many in just the last year I have lost count it is the outcast kid. It is important for people to have a social circle we are a pack animal.

There was your usual jocks grease monkeys nerds in my school the only group that seemed to flock together were the nerds. Every other group of friends had a mix of all the types of kids there was. There was a high percentage of outcasts in my school also. Me being one. I always preferred having one good friend and thats it. But i went to a pretty small school and in a pretty poor area. Not many stereotypical preppy types.
Anyway i went to school in NJ

well there are cliques as in... circles of friends, like even though you're all kind of friends with one another, you do have a few best friends that you spend most of your time with

but there aren't really any cliques as in all the jocks stick together, all the popular kids stick together, all the nerds stick together, etc... and there's not really any 'social status'.. like no one group of friends is better than the other, like there isn't any specific group of friends you look at and think "i wish i was with them" or something, like how in movies everyone wants to be in that one popular group...

We don't even really have jocks here to be honest... Sure there are sports teams, but nobody really even cares, we don't even watch our high school sports teams... if you go to a game there are maybe 5-10 people on the bleachers tops... and the majority of that is just parents/coaches... if you ask anyone the next day who won, or whats the score, nobody knows except for the few people there...

Maybe my school was just weird i dunno lol... but it wasn't necessarily a small school, around 1,200 kids in it (that might be small for an american school, i'm not sure), but you'd think it'd be a normal typical school in canada

High school and college sports mostly football are bigger then ANYTHING in small towns in America. In some places the whole town shuts down, shops and all on Friday night for the high school game. If the town has pro teams it is not as bad, but go to Texas or anywhere in south and you will see how they worship football. It's kind of sad to me, allot of these guys die in the same small town they were born in and the peak of their life was when they were 17 and on the football team. Literally all they talk about for the rest of their life.

This actually exists? I seriously thought this was just in old football movies... That's crazy, as a Canadian I probably can't even understand lol

Hockeys big here, but still not that big... we don't even have hockey highschool teams here. They probably do in Ontario and around there, but not here in BC...

I played sports in high school, just not football. Practices were after school and they had this thing they would hook up so that you got 5 or 6 water streams from the hose.

Well you could not use them unless you were on the football team. So if you wanted a water break you had a long walk inside. I remember being yelled at by the football coach about this. What a prick, they can't share water?

The football team all got $300 jackets (and there is like 50 on the team) from the school budget. Meanwhile we struggle for equipment. But football makes money for the school, other sports do not.

My high school was the largest in the state. 3000 kids. Only football was a big deal because our baseball team sucked. The swimmers kept themselves motivated so nobody went to their matches either haha
