I honestly have no clue what hackles are. I would assume that my dogs hackles are very large, and very small.

hubby mowed the yard. have to lower the blade and do it again in a few days. making progress. i pulled some weeds and moved some branches, did woodchips yesterday. there are a lot of areas that need to be weed-whacked, and the front yard has to be done that way from now on, because i cant help lift the mower over the wall again. its too heavy. my belly hurts from doing too much up and down. so i think weedpulling in the front tomorrow, early if i can get to bed early tonight. then we will be closer to ready to rototill and kill the limited grass thats left. some tulips i need to make markers for. hens and chicks i need to move. yarrow too. still need stuff for edging the woodchip areas. and i really want to get veggies planted, but i cant yet, not without being able to protect them from frosts (until mothers day) and rabbits. there are so. many. rabbits. need a rabbit-resistant fence. or wall. would prefer a wall. the dog can run the front yard if we have a wall the rabbits cant jump over. i dunno. no money yet. frustrating.

I like mowing the lawn but I hate weeding.

I think I might reconfigure all my garden beds into rock gardens. :)
That'll teach those nasty grass cancers -.-
Also, when I think about, you know.. I feel like I'm wasting days away sometimes on the garden. I really have better things to do. XD

I enjoy clearing land... going into the woods and cutting all the dead stuff, get a fire going and keep clearing land tell the day is over.. Makes summer look awesome when the grass has room to grow.

Plus i get to use a big chainsaw and thats always fun.

    I pod in all day.

    Dog be chilling.

If you deep enjoy you can fire off a couple of rounds.

Oh well, I'd love a nice looking lawn in the backyard but I have a mongrel that doesn't see eye to eye on that. :D

I've tried everything too. I've fenced the thing off, it looks like a concentration camp he still gets in under the fences, stands up and rips my stakes straight out. I've now cable tied and added twice as many stakes. He's not getting through for the last few days though I can see the attempted spots. I've blocked a bit off with bins.

I have to catch the lil bastard doing it though so I can tell him off but he'll never attempt it while being watched. If he does it again I'm just going to have to kennel him. Fuck it, he's going to be kennelled when I'm on holidays. I have my uncle to look after him on the farm but he'll be kennelled at night so he needs to get used to it. :)

I don't worry too much about the lawn. Growing grass takes so much water and effort and there is only a few places that can do this naturally. It came to America because all the Scottish and Irish immigrants from a place where it rains all the time wanted something to remind them of the fields of home. They also had livestock to graze it and keep it short back home. It took care of itself. It's just dirt and rocks outside for me.

Colorado is very dry, you have to work hard and have a green thumb to have a green lawn.

Mow the grass in the nude with this song playing so all neighbors can hear.

Wish you the best of luck.

Mowing grass in the nude [IMG] ...reminds me of my late husband...when the son would go and stay with him in the summer Jim would ride the tractor/mower nekkid...lol This was in the country, and about everybody around there knew they might be subject to find him in any sort of (drunken or nekkid) state if he was "mowing".

that depends entirely on the timing of the rain though. its not hard to grow grass between the march and april snows and rains. of course, come summer and fall... everything will be parched. i am still waiting on just the right groundcover to plant that will be pleasant to look at, walk on, and resilient. not to mention low water needs. one day my plant will come :)

In the backyard, we have probably more weeds than grass...but they really grow fast and high...and if you mow them it looks close enough to grass to pass. lol :D Other parts of the yard (not the backyard) are wild and other parts are so covered with that cursed vinca ground-cover/perfect snakebed material, I've already got a pair of knee high rubber boots to wear as I work outside.

I've worn them too. Snakes are coming out here. gad

I dread the grass cutting that goes with summer but the mosquitoes that are big enough here to wear their own little rain coats and the watering of the flowers, etc I can handle. DEET, the supposedly outlawed insecticide that you spray on can be found around here and it actually works. yay

ML, if all you are looking for is a ground cover, look to vinca...you'll be pulling it up everywhere...but it does grow anywhere and will wait on rain to come. It doesn't die in drought, it just gets wilted looking.

We have been having April showers all week long. They predict sun over the weekend and then another week of rain. Loud thunderstorm went over head about an hour ago. I got Grace out for her first walk of the day. We stayed close to home. She does not like the thunder.

What the fuck is chuppie19, and why do I have 30 status updates from it..... did not knowingly agree to be friends with this entity.

It seems to have joined yesterday, and have 52 images, 30 statuses, and "yesterday" probably means like 30 minutes ago, considering I'd never heard of it and had no updates like 45 minutes ago.

Maybe I'm being really harsh and don't remember some obvious explanation, or something.... or maybe I'm not actually tired, but already dreaming, this is the sort of random stupid little shit that sidetracks you and leads dreams totally different directions.

It's great that HF is that exciting, but for fucks sake, it's not really that exciting, you're harshing my sulk.

'HEY MAN YOU KNOW YOUR PISSING IN THE HALLWAY?!" I said from my bed...

"oh no... well I got it all out, I better get a towel"

    "YA THINK?"

first time he done that... now he gets to join the wall of shame with another house mate that he knows that did the same thing but near the kitchen.
