Finding a family doctor here is not only a big hassle but it is also Very Expensive for someone like me - without insurance.

The family doctors don't even prescribe pain meds now...they refer you to pain management. (My info comes from a long time friend.)

Thank goodness and all that is right and holy that my firecrackers (edibles) honest-to-God go a loooong way to help ease my joint, back and ankle pain. :)

Here basic family doctors are covered under our provincial health plans so we do not pay for appointments, unless you miss it then they can bill you for that time slot.

Family doctors here can prescribe but they also have to justify scripts if asked to so usually they will not prescribe to someone they feel is abusing them.. That is when they refer to a pain specialist here or if the pain is not manageable using regular dosages.

Narcotics abusers really mess it up for everyone. When it gets more and more difficult to get pain meds, and their sources dry up, they won't be able to afford them.

when i start filling out the forms for health care connect it asks about "diagnosed" conditions

when a goof of a doctor sends you for tests then vaguely states "you probably have chronic xxxxxx"...or "you have very abnormal high levels of xxxxxx in your blood but its ok probably" count as <<<diagnosis>>>>?

Yes, that's a diagnosis verified by lab tests.

That is a big part of the problem. On the form what would happen if you put what he/she states as probably as the condition?

It is hard to find a good family doctor as well, that does not help.

You can request those and they have to give them to you. They can charge you (usually 20 or so) for your chart. It might be worth it to do so and take them with you when you have to go in next time. Saves time and testing maybe.

I think that technically it is like that here...but only in words. In the last say 4 yrs, I've known and met any number of people that had been on a certain dosage of pain pills for literally years and their doctors suddenly began weaning them off and in a couple of cases stopped the scripts with no warning. period, meds gone. They were all told they would have to seek the pain meds from a pain management clinic. Of course the doc would continue to see them for other problems; but, pain meds would have to be obtained elsewhere.

I think it is because none of the docs here (none I heard of anyway) are willing to have anything he does even slightly scrutinized by the FDA Regarless of the fact that their practice is subject to be reviewed for any reason or because its their time, none is willing to risk drawing one iota of attention. The easiest way to assure that is to not prescribe pain meds and refer the patient to the pain management clinic (put the patient to some more trouble and cost) :)

sorry to hear about your homeless dude friend/acquaintence Ori

There are a few homeless people I sort of "know" from them having come in restaurants I've worked in over the years around here. There's one that has some mental problems, completely non-voilent...pushes his 2 carts everywhere despite it being known his family wishes he would live with them. I would help him when I could. I may be a silly gullible ass but I genuinely like several "homeless" (lived in tents in the woods) that I got to know during my "tenure" at Mickey D's. They were vets.
