i think i'm going to quit my job and go to university in january to become a social worker. i've been trying to hold out until september, when my wife will be done school, because i wanted to avoid going into debt... but fuck it, i hate my job and i feel like the longer i wait, the less motivation i'll have to go back to school. i've always wanted to do something like social work or counselling, but i've never really seriously considered it because the money is bad and the emotional toll from that kind of work is pretty high... but i don't give a fuck anymore, i'm just going to do it. probably won't be able to afford a house anytime soon, but at least i'll be doing something that i can feel good about.

edit: fuck, better pay my $15 so i can have that custom avatar back...

if you start saving now you can buy a house before the market gets back out of the hole. our closing costs were under $7,000 and our interest rate is 4.25% i think. our payment is cheaper than our rent at our last apartment.

    real thanksgiving happens in october...

but seriously, i like any type of potato. i don't eat meat, so thanksgiving and christmas dinners for me are usually pretty carb heavy, haha.

things aren't as cheap up here (canada), especially in my city. real estate is super expensive here right now. might have to move away when we finally do decide to buy something.

are closing costs the same as final price?

    eggnog....dude a social worker?...

those people do a thankless job and often get into dangerous situations

the pay sucks..you probably make more now....

my sons counselor...1 of them...told me that getting hired to work with troubled youth as a social worker is next to impossible....and only 1 year contracts are available anymore...you wont get a mortgage ever on a 1 year contract

phone ontario works and ask them...they will tell you....i no lie

why would you choose a field so over crowded with people already graduated

become a nurse...write your own ticket....nursing is the field that needs people in canada

closing costs are basically the bank fees + down payment. the total cost of our loan is about $105K. about $95K of that is the house, and the rest is fix-up stuff included in the loan. we did a $100 down program, otherwise we would have had to find 5-20% of the loan amount for the down payment. i cant remember the actual figure. it will be less than $800 a month. no pre payment penalties. its a little over 850 sq ft, plus a one car garage, on a quarter of an acre

I take a bunch of vitamins/supplements-you do have to be careful and educate yourself-

For example echinacea is great when your immune system needs a boost-but taking it all the time can weaken your immune system. Vitamin D in pill form is good on a limited basis-but seems to have problems with people who take too much for a long term.

I also go thru phases with my supplements-there are days I will only take a multiple-other days I take half of my supplements-for a few I will take none. then for a few I will take them all.

Check out your supplements on the internet-search on both Physician Based sites (like WebMD) and also alternative sites.

Also I LOVE kale-steam it with some tofu and corn, put it over some brown rice-and get some hot sauce!

Agreed- kale is the shit! Question though; does cooking/steaming affect its nutritional profile? I've heard conflicting things on that... some say don't cook your greens, other say it doesn't really matter and the difference is negligible...

In terms of Vit D, I've been taking about 4,000iu a day and I usually take weekends off... too much? I've read some recommendations up to 5000iu a day, and the capsules I have are 2000 a piece, so I usually take two.... I hear its good to take during winter months because in cooler regions we tend to be very deficient in sunlight. I take weekends off on my supplement regimen to, and some of the things I only take as needed/a few times a week...

Ever try out any nootropics Kev? Seems to be a very controversial area when it comes to vitamins/supplements... Some people love them, others say they are bullshit and nothing more than placebo effect. Personally I feel like I've been getting some benefit from them beyond just placebo, but such things can be pretty circumstantial and hard to gauge so its hard to say... So far I haven't come across anyone who's given them a serious try...

anything you'd recommend supplement wise that you've tried and been satisfied with personally man?
