Yesterday when I went to drive The Mother up the road, she wound up Having A Fit...wanted to know if I thought she was going senile? lol

I told her, no, it was her eyesight and her reflexes that concerned me the most...I may as well have pissed in the wind.

She told me I was "worrying about nothing". I asked her what if a kid or a car pulls out in front of you...are you going to see them? will you have the reflexes to stop?

She made a face at me, got in her car and left.

    deargod

    She wasn't gone long.

Rolling, I swear I just don't want to get the police involved...that would amount to The Worse Thing Possible I Could Do...in her mind...What I have in mind is to make her go to the eye doctor for new glasses (no, she doesn't need new ones) or something. The law around here is also 2 faced and awful...I'm afraid they would arrest her and/or TELL her I called them. They are some dirty underhanded dogs around here. I don't want her arrested...

This is almost a nightmare. I'm thinking about taking something off her car...I'll need one of y'all (BBAD) to tell me something like where a coil wire is...I've heard a car won't crank without one. I'll just make sure it's on there for her 1 1/2 mile trip to the church...oh yeah, her MAIN excuse/reason that she doesn't have to "worry" about said kids and/or other cars is because she "drives slow". :-O

She was ready to really scrap with me yesterday about that...said she had her license and she Would Drive.

License Renewal Rules for Older Drivers

Special rules apply to drivers who are 65 and older who seek to renew their licenses.

Time limits: Drivers age 65 and older must renew every five years; those under 65 may renew for five years by mail—or ten years in person at a local DMV office.

Vision test: Required at in-person renewal. DMV personnel will conduct a test free, or drivers can have an exam performed by an outside licensed eye care professional, who must complete a written form. If the DMV requires additional information, it may request an additional exam by an eye care professional, who must complete and submit a Report of Vision Screening for Non-Commercial Beginner Permits or Driver’s Licenses.

Written test: May be required at the discretion of DMV personnel.

Road test: May be required at the discretion of DMV personnel.

    Possible License Restrictions

The DMV can place restrictions or conditions on a person’s driver license after administering a driving test and discussing possible restrictions with him or her.

The most common restriction for older drivers is to require glasses or corrective contact lenses.

In South Carolina, other common requirements the DMV may impose on older drivers include:
    •no freeway driving
    •no nighttime driving, and
•time of day restrictions—for example, no driving during rush hour traffic.

How to Request an Unsafe Driver Investigation in South Carolina

The South Carolina DMV will accept information from courts, police officers, and other DMV personnel about an individual’s potentially unsafe driving.

Unlike most states, it does not have a set procedure for family members, friends, and other concerned individuals to report that a driver may be unsafe behind the wheel.

I'm going to sneak and look at her license later today...she's in here right now. lol

I think it expires next year. :yikes:

AND the DMV isn't interested in her passing anything but her eye-sight test. I found that out 3 years ago. At age 92 or 93 (can't remember) they gave her a license for 5 (FIVE) years! So that puts her being able to drive, according to this idiot state, until she is 97 or 98.

edit: she hasn't driven at night for years and years, and doesn't drive outside a small radius...I just think its time that radius is shortened to driving around our semi-circular driveway.

big storm here last night too, I had to wake up and close the window because I was getting rained on while I slept.

    how is everyone doing?

I haven't been around here in months. baby is coming in about 3 months, so things have been busy. i'm pretty much done with school for the summer now, so I went from being crazy busy to having not a lot to do... it is nice, but weird. I'm trying to fill my time with volunteering since there are few jobs up here right now, and even fewer that are only looking to hire someone for a couple of months.

I understand and share your concern, my friend. :)

In she short area she INSISTS on driving there isn't a highway...not that a BAD thing can't happen on a country road.

Lordhavemercy...since she also Will Not Carry even a little cheap cell phone, I have given to her to put in her purse, much to her dismay I will add, AND placed several places in her pocketbook and wallet the numbers for both this house and the tracfone I have.

I have never had, or rather contracted with any kind of cell phone monthly dealio. But I've had my same number and a tracfone since 2008, so there's that, for what its worth. lol :D

edit: my son and I have a dingdang contract/serious understanding that if I live that long and get that stubborn (and/or mean as needed), he MUST TELL me AND (most importantly) remind me not to be like The Mother. lol

    yeah, I lol but I'm 100% serious.

hey hey! good to see you pop in! our little one could debut any time in the next few weeks. i have an NST and an appointment today, and an ultrasound on thursday. then appointments every tuesday until hes born. im ready, i feel like a whale, and my feet are killing me, i really need some kind of arch support. washing old baby clothes, prepping the house for company, trying to get the yard under control, but i cant DO anything, so i have to delegate, and i hate that. but i feel good, and excited, and im pretty pleased that we are almost done.

awesome to hear! my wife is just starting to get uncomfortable now. up until now she has had bad heartburn, but that is pretty much it (and the doctor gave her a script to help with it).

now she is starting to have trouble sleeping because she's uncomfortable. when she does manage to get to sleep, she wakes up hungry at 4am, haha.

I refuse to put an age in which I want to live till...pretty much as long as I can take care of myself (and am in less than unbearable pain) I want to live. as soon as I need someone to help me function normally I would leave my rather small estate to the one that pulls the plug.
