I'm sure some will make it. And my best wishes goes out to those who take Mexico's offer and to those who make it to the US.

God and Good Vibes be with them all until the very end. They need it.

I make this face  when I hear liberals compare migrant caravans and with all our ancestors who came to this land.

Settling a pre-civilized land and building a civilization, is not the same as showing up to an already economically powerful, post-industrial nation and signing up for subsidized benefits.

Did all your ancestors come to the soil that is now the United States before it was civilized?

    Lol

There's so much wrong with this i'm not sure where to start but I guess i'll go with the obvious things -

-Pre-civilized land? Um. I'm sure you know that's a false statement.

-the biggest wave of immigration occurred between the 1880s and 1920s when America was a well established country. And many of those immigrants were met with the same xenophobia we're seeing today

-I think the point of the comparison is to show that humans have always left for foreign lands in search of a better life. It is instinctive to us as a species, we are migratory creatures

all of the bullshit issues with south and central america are by-products of american political, economic, and cultural sabotage of those countries through decades upon decades of U.S imposition of policies purposely designed to financially strangle and weaken power in south out of fear of economic maneuvering or formation of alliances with other countries(notably European powers at the time) which, if formed, would threaten American global control.

this is all the fault of the american government which washes its hands of any fault and tries to belittle immigrants and the overall the gravity of the situation through a slew of pejorative labels, acting as if it itself were the victim, when in reality it shares most of the fault for the current disaster.

The United States was civilized before the white man came. Not to mention the rest of the "New Lands", north, central, and south.

There were cities larger than any in Europe and a population around 122 million.

If you wanna get int the nitty gritty, sure there were some civilizations in the americas before the 1600s: Aztecs, Incas, Mayans, Mesa Verde cliff city and a small handful of others. But there wasn’t much civilization outside of that. Hunting and gathering is not an easy and civilized life. Not many of us would last a week doing that.

I can’t speak for everyone’s ancestors, but when mine came over, they had no wefare checks, subsidized housing, and a plate of government cheese waiting for them upon their arrival (unlike these refugee boats). They came over with skills the could utilize, and built their lives from the ground up.

Refugees are not the same as immigrants. Immigrants dont qualify for benefits. Refugees do, for a limited time. Then they have to build their lives from the ground up like all of us. Did your ancestors flee from war?

It is the responsibility of all humane nations to take in refugees fleeing from war and violent circumstances and to help them get on their feet. If you dont believe that there isnt any point in discussing this because we're debating a fundamental difference in morality.

Native Americans were not just hunter gathers.

Cahokia was located across the river from present day St. Louis. It was larger than London of the same era housing between 10 to 20,000 people and it covered 6 square miles.
Almost 60% of the type of eatable foods used in the world today were first grown in the Americas including capsicum peppers, potatoes, tomatoes, artichoke, maize, lima kidney and pole beans, sweet potatoes, cacao, avocados, squash, pumpkins. sunflowers, goosefoot, tobacco, gourds, maple syrup, cranberry, papaya, and plums..

Some regions also had sophisticated governments and cultures. Remember our constitution was influenced by the Iroquois federation.

This thread took a weird turn into what constitutes morality...

Agreed. If a nation wishes to raise the "we're the best" flag, than it must be measured by how that nation treats the most vulnerable both within its borders, and waiting at the border.

Someone said that. I don't recall who. A philosopher perhaps. I'd Google it but I don't know the exact quote...something about the greatness of a society is measured by how they treat their worst.

    I think you're onto something.

So your ancestors engaged in the largest genocide in known history? Congratulations. Hopefully your ancestors are suffering hell-like conditions in the afterlife.

Well maybe not civilized, but at least the Indigenous don't commit continent-wide mass genocide. And most Indigenous societies had about 4 hours of work a day and the rest of the time was all leisure. And that was only part of the year.

Some of us are descended from people who came here in the late 19th and early 20th Centuries. We're not all descendants from the Mayflower. Some of us are absolutely descended from people who showed up to an already economically powerful, post industrial nation. And as far as subsidized benefits, legal immigrants aren't even eligible until after working and living in the US for five years.

Truthfully, I've never seen a shred of evidence that hoards of illegals are coming over here and taking our welfare and healthcare. If you're here illegally, the last thing you want to do is pop up on the grid. But, whatever...
