You don't give a suicidle girl with a knife a puppy. You give her some like herbs or something, but not a fucking puppy.

    ok heres my opinion.
the pot thing is a non issue really, i would suggest you introduce a policy of i dont approve but as long as you dont do it in the house and only on weekends then i can live with that even if i dont like it. with the cutting i have experiance of both cutting and over eating and general pot use. The cutting is a big problem you really need to talk to her as it can get way out of hand, tell her about how horrible it will make her body look and if possible find someone you know and prefrebally she knows who use to be a cutter and show her the scars. you need to talk and for a long time, The next time she has a night in go into the room with her and talk (you should just prompt and let her do the talking).

She needs some sitar music, a counselor and a big bag of mushrooms. He'll take her for a trip that she'll discover some things on and come back a new kid.

I wouldn't worry so much about the pot. It's the cutting you have to deal with. Pot won't kill her or fry her brain like an egg. (propagandist bullshit anyhow) She's probably burning to help her deal with the stress that the cutting is bringing on.

When I smoke (daily after work), I realize all of the things that I did during the day that were wrong and I can reflect on those things and make corrective actions based on those thoughts. Makes me a better person.

How much time are you and the family able to spend with her? That's a huge thing. My old man (mom moved after the divorce) didn't spend too much play time with me, but we did do a lot of work together. Never came to my track meets or took any interest in much of anything. It hurt, but I am a very independant person, so I could take it. I did drink a lot though. But spending time working with him made me respect him more and it taught me a lot about taking care of your family. Gave me a greater sense of responsibility. Maybe what you were attempting with the dog. Had he spent time with me running or skiing, I might not have drank so heavily.

Kids want their folks around to have fun with as well as take care of them. Teach them to be independant (learning to build, take care of the car, etc) and they'll respect you more. Teach them that it's ok to be a parent and still be able to go out and have a fun time with your kid and they'll love you for it. Do it often enough and it will keep them out of trouble.
