The NDP is now the leading Federalist party in Quebec with 24% or 26% of the popular vote according to the most recent poll.

As Gille Duceppe said, the NDP and the Liberals are fishing out of the same pond, if the NDP is taking more fish, that's less for the Liberals. Not so good is you're a staunch anti-conservative.

With the left-wing vote split, that can potentially give a lot of power to Harper should the majority of Canadians vote for his party.

I like that the NDP is getting more votes, I think they're a decent party (compared to old red and blue), it just sucks that their rise in popularity could come at the cost of another Conservative minority, perhaps majority.

This one isn't too hard to figure out now is it?

Call anyone not on your supporter lists in the middle of the night, blast a competitors ad and piss them off...

One thing that really shocks me is the overwhelming support that harper and the cons have in the west, especially Alberta.

Now, I realize that he comes from there, and that while there, he said things that sounded good for Albertans (keeping the money in province for example), but he was no more honest back then, then he is now.

The biggest discrepency I see in all of this is over the oilsands... Think about this for a moment... You own a piece of land... someone comes in and says I want to build a mine on your property... it won't ever be good for anything again, but there will be oodles and oodles of cash...

And we will give you 1% of it....

    Really? A whole whooping 1%?

That is the deal that the entrenched conservatives have made for albertans... The northern part of your province gets destroyed for the next 1000 years, but you will get 1% of the money...

Well... okay thats not right either... you won't get it... the conservative government will get it... (you know, the same ones who made the deal in the first place), but hey, I'm sure they will manage that money with just as much wisdom as they showed in making the deals in the first place...

The abuse of Albertans by the conservative party is long known and documented... splashed across the national headlines in fact... Right up until election time, when the candidates wander through and promise to give you the moon and the sun...

The resounding theme seems to be that the cons will save "Alberta's Oil Sand money for Alberta"... but the truth is that they already gave it all away...

    To the oil companies.

I was thinking about that yesterday Tom. If you look at those election results on some of those links you provided, Alberta and Saskatchewan both voted almost exclusively conservative last time.

Oh god, what has Canada come to!

You know, a lot of people have said that it's "treasonous" that Gille Duceppe gets to run in our elections. They actually use that word, "treasonous."

Anways, what do you think about the NDP's gains in Quebec? Do you think that splitting the left wing vote, which seems to be happening more and more, will hurt the chances of Harper not being re-elected? Will it work in his favour?

Jack Layton said that if a coalition happens, he'll work with everyone, except Duceppe.

Aww, and just last week Gille Duceppe said, on live tv at one of his rallies that, "Jack Layton is a nice guy."

:( I guess Jack doesn't feel the same...

Political bs... I have serious doubts about any of them that say they wouldn't do something if it was their only path to power...

If a coalition between the liberals, ndp and bloc (and greens if they elect an mp) is what is needed to get rid of harper, I have no problems with it...

It isn't going to change the talk of seperation one way or another... if and when the bloc think they can win a seperation referendum, they will push for one... regardless of any deals made or not made.

Having said that, I would much prefer it didn't come to that, just because it would leave harper yapping for decades about how unfair it was...

Well, even if Harper gets another minority, he could still lose his power if he doesn't get the confidence vote of the house, which I can't see happening (getting the confidence vote). Nothing there has changed since he didn't get it weeks ago.

I can see harper getting a minority, putting forth all his priorities into the budget and daring the opposition to make his government fall again...

Well, if that happened, at least people would then be forced to pick someone else with the realisation that Harper just doesn't work.

I'm not sure if I should be surprised or not at how much fear the Con's are putting into the public with regards to the coalition...For a party that is in the lead, they sure seem to be playing desperation politics with this non-stop bitching/fear mongering about coalitions!

I'm not afraid that a coalition with the support of the Bloc...Of course if I lived in Quebec I probably would support them anyways.

    Just to let folks know, the government is enforcing this law for the election. The law goes back to 1938;

You shouldn't post anything to do with election results before all polls in Canada have closed. Like say if I post who won in my riding, while polls in B.C. are still open.

One can receive up to a $25,000 fine and 5 years in jail.

Last year a guy posted the winner of his riding on his facebook page, while polls were still open, and he received a $1000 fine.

Wait untill all polls close before discussing the results online.

Until the final counts are done it really wont matter anyways... There are so many swing ridings (and possible new ones with new voter turnout) that it will be down to the wire which way it goes...

They don't have anything but fear to peddle... there is no issue that the truth wouldn't crucify them on, therefore they can only try to make us fear the other parties.

We have reason to dislike most of the parties... the cons (in power) are the only party that should make people afraid...
