I live only a couple of miles away from the beach. If I wanted to swim, I would attempt it again. I tried swimming in the past, but I simply never could get the hang of it. Besides, I am not a water person.
easy fix for that wear a pfd i rarely swim without one..if i pass out and drown id rather be found dead floating than getting hooked on those drag lines they use for finding bodies
My dad gave me a swimming lesson when I was little. He was holding me in his arms as he asked me if I'd like to know how to swim. As quickly as I could say "yes" he threw me over the edge of the boat we were on. That was the end of the lesson. It's my opinion that swimming is like riding a bike. Any able bodied human can do it, it's just some people choose not to. That's why stories like the following make me sick.... http://newamericamedia.org/2010/08/six-teens-drown-in-louisiana-river.php
Not very well. I can't float worth sh-t, the only fat I have is in my head. In high school and college we had to stay afloat for an hour, and I had a drown proofing class, but that was long ago. Also swam a mile once, couldn't do it now. My wife was on the swim team in high school. Almost drowned one time at the beach. My young son got caught in a rip tide and I pushed him clear, then it got me. I swam as hard as I could parallel to the beach till I cleared it. Didn't think I was going to make it as I was SPENT. I know one guy who drowned in the river saving his son, and another who broke his neck at the beach when he got slammed by a wave. He lived about two weeks. My wife's grandfather died in a Pittsburgh river back in the 30's or so. He worked on the barges and fell off through the ice. Couldn't get out. Oh, and I have a niece who may be headed to the next Olympics for swimming.
I grew up on the mississippi river and learned to swin before i could walk. We had a cabin, Family did and friends. I like to swim, But i dont go out of my way anymore. Its been years since ive been on the river and dont care if i ever ride in a boat again to tell the truth. My dad to this day still cant swim but spent decades on the water.
well if your not really a water person you probably won't miss it,but if just bout gettin' the hang of it ,you could keep tryin' til ya get there.underwater swimming rocks!
First thing I wondered was whether or not it was likely you made this thread just so you could say that to someone. Second, yes I can swim. :2thumbsup:
Firstly, was it likely? Secondly, would it be more likely that I made this thread so I could ask hot chicks out for a swim? Thirdly, can I ask you out for a swim?
I was a lifeguard for a long time...on the coast and at a few pools. I taught swim lessons to kids and adults. I taught this one swim lesson at an old folks home...really really strange experience. I love the water...every time I'm near a lake, I have to swim across it. I've been considering picking up a weekend job at a local hotel that has been begging me to lifeguard there.
I'm with BBAD on the pools though, I avoid them if I can. My favorite is cliff jumping. 75 feet is the tallest jump I've made. I also love me some gnarly rope swing action
I would live in water if I could. I love swimming. Especially in rivers with waterfalls like 4 corners in Vermont or Holyoke in MN.
Even worse, they don't usually find all of you. Our rotting joints are weak and the head sometimes falls off. You should never swim alone.
Hello, well, if it had been the wish of the Almighty that we can swim, he would had given us webs, wouldn't he? So, now look at your hands and feet and tell us what you see. Regards Gyro
