Can anyone give me one piece of SCIENTIFICALLY PROVEN evidence that dread wax fails?

For the love of god, just put the wax in your dreads already... you are obviously convinced that it is the way for you.

    I used Knotty Boy wax

I agree with antithesis, just use it (it sounds like you want to), and you'll find out for yourself whether it's wack or not. That is, if you actually grow your dreads for a decent length of time.

Like many things in life, it is best to just learn by experience :)

As opposed to not touching your hair and letting it do whatever it wants with no maintaining? Yes.. yes you make so much sense.

I'm just pointing out that there are two sides of the argument, and I've heard of tons of people who used wax from "good" companies and carefully followed directions and they had no problems.

A lot of people are coming into this thread and just tossing around insults and being anti-wax nazis. I didn't make this to stay on one side of the argument and flame the other side, I'm just trying to get information from people who obviously have more experience with me. But that doesn't mean I'm gonna just believe everything without reasons or without wondering why they say some of the things they say.

No need to get mad rofl. I'm trying to make points I'm not here to launch attacks at people. However it would seem that because I'm not vehemently opposed to wax a few people feel the need to whine that I'm just trying to argue with people. I'm not a moron who just believes the first thing I hear.. In fact if we all were I'm sure we'd all have candle stick dreads. I'm just scopin things out.

The things is, you don't seem to put any stock in anything that anyone says, so why bother?

I used good wax from a good company and followed the directions. It did not work and was a bad experience. The wax does not melt off in the shower, it stays in your hair. It collects dirt and lint, it gives you acne and dandruff. I did not use a ton of wax either, I used the recommended amount. It sucked. You can either believe what most people are saying, or you can find out for yourself and maybe for you it will work. But you just seem to brush off anything that anybody says if they don't like the wax and call them an anti-wax nazi.

After watching that video HDH (I think?) posted about the girls experiment and it not washing off her hand, I broke out my jar of wax from that one really famous company to see how it felt.

All in all, I got some on my finger and couldn't bend it. It wouldn't wash off.

Imagine my finger is a hair clump. no movement and no washing out.

    there.

    That's quite foul...

The waxed one at a glance looks better because it's tighter.. But it indeed doesn't look as healthy.. And the inside of it was just plain nasty.

I think after seeing this video and reading all your comments I can say I won't be using wax..

Are there any non-crappifying alternatives to wax or nothing but time? (For those of you who haven't read through the pages... I don't care about going "natural" so I'm all up for products. Just not stuff thats bad for the dreads.)

There are alternatives such as aloe vera. If you're that worried about appearance tie them up during the day and let them down at home. But you have to make sure they don't gow together.

I'm afraid that most of us have used wax and are against it. There is your information with experienced dreaders. Wax is a scam. And like Antithesis said, you don't seem interested in our points, so why bother.

Wax threads like these are bound to get a flame or three, and are just waiting for arguments.

The vid that hdh posted is all the evidence you need really.

And er, "scientifically proven?!" Do be serious. We can do our own experiments, and have experience. No fool of a scientist would waste time with dreadlocks and wax when he could be finding the cure for cancer or working out the origin of the universe.

    Alternatives: Time/aloe vera.

I might try aloe... You guys can frown upon me if you want for caring about their appearance and stuff but I'm not gonna lie... There's nothing religious or spiritual in the reasons I want dreads. I want them because

    1. I think they look awesome
    and
    2. I think they look awesome

I don't care what anyone thinks so me thinking they're awesome is enough for me to want to get them. Thanks for the help from everyone though. If anyone has anything else to say go ahead and say it.

(And also... I'm sorry but the girl in that video did overwax and she applied it wrong then continued to do it 5 times in the amount of time you're supposed to do it once  )

But it's beside the point. My dreads will be like little creatures.. I must care for them and allow them to grow and develop.. And nurture them to make sure they have bright futures!

Will you just use the products already so you can get it over and done with,

My favorite argument is people using them to make their dreadlocks look more presentable ^^

Nothing wrong with being a little vain, but dreads only get to awesome status when they mature over time, you can't rush the awesome.

Awesome looking dreads don't come free. You gotta earn it by putting in the time.

Yeah, I use aloe sometimes like if I am visiting my parents to make the dreads look neater. It seems to wash out great and not build up, so I think that that is a good alternative.

Maybe you didn't read what I've been saying, or maybe you just don't care and want to argue for no reason.

Hilarious to me that I say I've decided not to use wax and suddenly everyone starts say OH NO just go ahead and do it, now lets keep arguing about it.
