TRAAAIL MIX GUYS TRAIL MIX! i love trail mix! u got some trail mix, u got some reefer, u got some water, u got some friends... what else do u need?
i love camping but i dont is its cold try camping out under the stars and pull one of those all nighter thingeys last time my friends fort they saw a space ship i dident but they did that night we ate anything and if tired drunk a chep alternaite of red ball i bleive it was called kick! yeah that was fun!
When I do go camping I do noramally take my guitar too but I wouldn't have thought that would have been a priority for your trip unless you are very musical, etc.
I do alot of camping with just my dogs. I like remote places. I have found that my cell phone is very handy for emergency's. I never had one before, seemed to defeat the purpose, but my son talked me into it cuz he was worried about me. I've had it for several years but never needed it till last summer. I had parked my car and walked a good few miles into the forest and set up camp. There was no one around for miles. The next day I was hiking when I fell down a gully and broke my leg. I was so glad I had my cell phone! It took my son's about 7 hour's to find me but I could have layed there and died.
We're gearing up for Beltaine. It is held on the Sacred (and secret!) Isle. The isle is under water part of the year and is flooded by Spring rains so it's kinda boggy. Everything we take (two people for two days) must fit in a 15' canoe. This includes tent, ground cloths, sleeping bags, air mattress (herniated discs, can't sleep on the ground) food, beverages, garb, etc etc etc. It's a chore to pack it up, usually takes a try or two. Most valuable thing? French press. Gotta have coffee strong enough to strip furniture... Gotta.
some things besides the obvious experience has taught me to bring: Camera Duct tape sleeping pad (the self-inflating are best, and actually roll up smaller than the normal closed cell - much more comfy!) walking stick extra garbage and ziplock bags lithium batteries (they are much lighter than alkaline) camp shoes ( I use sandals, but if bugs creep you out you may want light canvas shoes) - feet like to breathe after being in hiking boots all day! The best way to know what to bring is through trial and error. Everyone's list is gonna be a bit different. Take a couple short, easy trips, maybe to walk-in sites, to make sure you have everything you'll need for your backpacking trips. On a 3 day trip my husband and I together take about 40-45lbs, but we take luxery items we don't usually take on longer, more diffucult trails (big camp chairs that are kinda heavy for one example).
quote: It took my son's about 7 hour's to find me but I could have layed there and died. wow, close call! I've often envisioned situations like that during camping trips but have been lucky up to now. I like to bring whiskey, its concentrated and potent....easy to pack and gets the job done when the sun goes down.
Never underestimate yourself. If you didn't have the phone, you'd have realized it was up to you to save yourself, and wouldn't have just layed there. You'd have fought through the pain and gotten yourself out of there. Hopefully. I guess some people give up. At that point, survival is 80% mental. Still, it is good you had your phone. Better: dip the tips of your matches in wax, and put them in a film canister.
i bring a coffee percolator a sleeping bag a rain poncho and a mandolin. sometimes a tent or a hammok
besides what has already been suggested.. I always make sure to bring along - waterproof matches - leatherman (any multi tool w/ pliers, screwdriver, knife, can opener etc) - this thing comes in handy in a thousand different situations - light rope - water filter (you never know when you'll need it) - rain covers (for you and your pack)
oh yes...can't forget the multi-tool (that thing is SOOOO handy!) Make sure the water filter not only removes metals and stuff, but parasites as well. Read up on it a bit, and you'll find out the names of the nasties you want to keep out of your water...
a comfortable bed & warm blankets! Even if I didn't have my soon to be rv I still like to outside camp in a tent but those are like MUST HAVES. what's really awesome is a cool group of people just enjoying the outdoors under a blanket of stars, drumming, smoking green (not me I get high on good vibes) & bondfires sing the song of crackling woods.
I should hope you don't have plans to use a chain saw or machete...leave the forests the way they were when ya went in!
