OK education is probably not that great - but at least a lot of American kids can read and write by the age of 16, which I'm sad to say isn't the case here.

I'm sorry you feel that you have to keep things concealed from hubbie. That must be a difficult situation.

I can empathize with your poem, and it makes me feel sad.

I'm sure if you really want it, you'll find what you need.

Yep. Evidently, kids on 1st year university courses even at good unis are having to have basic literacy lessons. Sad isn't it.

Thing is, Britain is a country in terminal decline (has been for close on 100 years). America could hold the keys to the future.
Like Leonard Cohen said " it's there (ie the US) they got the range and the machinery for change, and it's there they got the spiritual thirst'.

Relayer - thank you, you totally understood!

Bill - thank you, and don't be sad for me, its just a case of
    delayed adolescent angst... lol.

HAHAHA! thats just rude! If someone did that to my (non existant) kids i'd b*tchslap them

but seriously you can't do more than your best.

My report card always said i didn't try enough. Which was true. Maybe that's what God figures too haha! do you think God's trying to communicate to us through our childhood report cards? *looks around paranoid*

Well the educational culture has changed since those days, but actually, I'd have little sympathy for some guy who goes down to the school to 'sort out the teacher'. A friend of mine who is a teacher has been threatened by moronic parents for critizing their little wonders for totally unacceptable behaviour they have picked up from mummy and daddy.

Probably, it wasn't rude anyway. He was probably right. What I claimed to be 'my best' was probably not my best, as I had little interest at that time in getting educated.

the path I am on seems to have changed to pavement and filled with cars spewing out fumes and trash. the trees have been cut down and the streams are drying up. The sun is too hot to stand and life is dying. I can't help thinking that I am responsible for this and want to stop on this path to destruction, turn around and go back to where I once was or make it all better somehow. But it all seems so out of control. just trying not too make an impact myself doesn't seem enough. got to try and fix what I can and educate others

That is all any of us can do. You may want to plant trees, that is what I do and it makes me feel better. I pick up trash whenever I'm out in nature, and teach my children how important it is to be responsible. It is a positive impact, even though it is small.

How to spread the need for love and the joy and peace it brings. If I were to answer this question in full it would take more time than I have now. Good question and topic though. Maybe I'll read all the responses and make a more involved response later. I have to go to bed and get up for work though. Don't want to waste the effects of the last of my cookies though.

i don't recall having lost anything, but i'm always looking to see what's over the next hill or arround the next bend.

i also believe in little furry green things from wherever little furry green things are from. because the're mostly harmless and probably more fun to be with then i am.

if you want to seek something that's fine. just as long as you don't condem the rest of us to having to.

I think we are all naturally 'seekers'.

As hunter gatherers, which was the occupation of humanity for most of its history, one has to constantly be seeking for food.
Perhaps the seeking on other levels too is natural - we all seek happiness.

Perhaps the seeking for some kind of higher or spiritual dimension is actually just another manifestation of this basic fact of our nature as humans?
