Well, it depends where you look really. I know it's not as hippie as it was back in the 60s, nothing is as hippie as it was back then. But there are still some areas all over Cali that have a hippie atmosphere. I live in Southern California, in an area called the Inland Empire and it's pretty much like a ghetto around here but there are some small, looked over towns that have that vibe. I used to live in a very desert like area and there was a small commune not too far. Nice people. :)

I lived in CA from 1961 to 1997. Hung out at Redondo, Manhattan and Hermosa beaches. Long ago, Hermosa was the best place to hang out for hippy types. Anyone remember the Either Or Bookstore on Pier Avenue? I hear it's all blocked off now. Shame, that.

8 years ago, I was in San Diego. The hippest beach area there was Ocean Beach. That's where I met Mr. Wonderful in 1991. Lots of parties with old hippies in attendance, lots of street and art fairs, great little dives to eat at, head shop (The Black). I have no idea what it's like 8 years later. I just know our old party house was bought out (the renter, my sis-in-law was forced to move after living there nearly 20 years) and it's all been "purdied up". I've not been back to see what's gone down.
