This is true, don't forget about the starving people if you have money donate, if you wanna cure disease's donate to research, as for the war if you don't believe in all I can tell ya is to protest other than that your shit out of luck
Okay sorry I believe Budda is just a security blanket for people who cannot accept the world for what it is..how old are you do you have a job, if you do you can save your money and then buy a house in Iraq and stop the fighting. I donnot believe in the war but....people who sign up for the military know what they are getting into, I know to some it is there last resort but they sign the dotted line. The war may not be just but it is still a reality, there is a lot of hatred going on over there and right now all we can do is pray...to whatever God we believe in
As a southerner, the american flag is the symbol of an oppresive government that is in current occupation of my country. Still wouldnt burn the flag though, because i have ancestors that fought under it and for it. I couldnt care less to shame the country, but the shame to my ancestors would be unforgivable. I choose the Bonnie Blue or the Stars and Bars anyday.
How so? Do you know anything about Buddhism? It's obvious that you don't have a real response and mock whatever I say. This is one of my last posts in response to you, b/c this isn't a discussion, it's rhetoric. Om Mani Padme Hum. I wouldn't move to Iraq now that the US has replaced Saddam as dictator. I will move to Italy within 5 years. Peace & Love
I think some parts of buddhism are interesting. The whole karma thing is quite cool as is the reincarnation thing (am I on the right religion?). The reincarnation thing I think is a pile of bollocks. I think all religion is bollocks. The thought that when you die you go to this great heaven where everyone has a good time. How would anyone know what my idea of a good time is and how can it be the same as everyone elses? And wouldn't a constant good time get boring and wouldn't some dictator try and take over heaven and being that this God is running it doesn't that make God a dictator? Option 2.... reincarnation.... Having lived for one lifetime who the fuck wants to do it again. even worse do it again but in the eyes of a dung beetle. Option 3.... go to hell.... Ok heaven and hell all in the same theory. obviously if I'm wrong and there is a God then I might be getting a lot of pineapples shoved up my ass when I die. But.... Karma makes some sort of sense. Not the whole if I do something good something good will happen to me because its like going to a pub. You may buy someone a pint but he aint necessarily gonna buy you one back. There is a good chance he will but sometimes it doesn't work that way. In most cases if you leave a reasonably good life doing right by people then people respect you and do good by you. There are still bad things that can happen to you but I don't really think thats just because you were bad. I wish once and for all someone could work out which religion is really correct so we can all live by it.
what has buddism to do with the question if you would burn your flag or not. to me buddism is just a very peacefull religion and therefor i respect it. I would burn the flag of my country if I had a reason. the government is here for the people, if the state can“t satisfy the people than the government ahs to go. if a burning can help to make that happen, I will do it.
i agree we seemed to have digressed from the subject in hand by quite a bit... Here is a thought.... when asked in an interview someone from the English National Party said that England do not celebrate st georges day like the irish celebrate st patricks day because we are scared to loft the flag of st george for fear of being accused of being racist. We do however seem to find the time to raise the same flag at football, cricket and rugby matches. Weird. it is true that the far right have adopted the st georges cross but they have equally tried to adopt the union jack but noone could accuse the union jack of being a symbol of racism. (being that its a union and all). So... here is my idea. America has the stars and stripes which is not considered a racist symbol. There is also the confederate flag that is considered racist by some. So the English could redesign the flag of St George and therefore seperate it from the far right. The far right would not want the new flag because its not truly English. By the way the Cross of St George used to be raised aloft every time the English were on the march so I'm raising my cross..... the world be warned... the English are coming. my profile states I'm in Scotland which means we have already taken them.... Ha Ha Ha.
Why wouldnt the English fly their flag? The Scots fly St Andrew, the Ulster fly their own flag and there fore the English should fly theirs. Its still part of their idenity. Of course its the Scots and Irish that were pushed into the Union Jack, so maybe that is why the feel free to fly their true flag, and the English feel bad for it lol. Here in the south, some people fly the Confederate flag, which is the southerners St Andrews. It was based on St Andrews due to the Scottish culture of the South. It was the Bonnie Blue, which some fly still, that was more of a government flag. It was the flag of the Republic of West Florida, which is the area where i live, before it was taken by the Union in 1817. After part later becoming Mississippi, they seceeded, immediatly raising the Bonnie Blue over the capitol. Before the war, Mississippi was only part of the Union for a forced 45 years give or take a few. And after the war, she was taken again, and is still that way today. We are to Scotland what the US is to England. They took us, and kept us down, knowing we would rebel again if we got the chance. But all that is history now i suppose.
I'd burn the american flag, as to me, it represents being malcontent with pseudo-patriotism and complaceny. Most of the american flags you can get at the store are made overseas anyway. Flag-burning is protected under the Speech Act. some people in the service may take offense to it, because they probably serve(d) with the notion that they're actually "serving their country" , when actually, they just serve an agenda. Make no mistake about it, military has turned into a big business. what was the last war where we actually had to protect our own country?? WW II perhaps?
Not even WWII really, or WWI, the last war the US fought for freedom, for americans at least, was against the red coats.
I'd burn it in a minute, if it meant some would wake up and become more aware of how they are being manipulated. The US is a democratic republic not a monarchy, symbols and titles should mean nothing, rights and freedoms everything!
heh, figures but you know how Repubs are, they wage a "war" on anything and everything; "war on drugs", "war on crime", "war on terrorists", etc., etc. and I'm with you on that, gardener. I'm not exactly one to just burn one when nationalism is at an all-time high, however tempting, but I do fully support the practice.
Polymer don't know where you went to school, but I wasn't talking about "republicans". en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republic
that wasn't in response to you, gardener; that was rhetorical about figurative "wars" being waged, responding to heron's reply. I already understand the respective definitions of a republic and democracy.
I think English people are happier with the Union Jack (except when playing sport because the English are better than the Scots, Welsh and Irish so we are happier with the red and white then). As mentioned before I think the Cross of St George is not used to much because it is more a symbol of war than a peaceful flag like so many other countries. The union jack is more representative of where we are now. Yes the union jack is also used by Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland but thats how England wants to be. I personally like being English. I'm not ashamed of our past any more than the Danes are ashamed of their viking past. I also like being British. To be honest I like the Royal Family thing and the whole heritage of the past such as the commonwealth. What a great symbol to the world.... all these great nations locked in a real peace treaty. Look at Britain. We have real allies in Australia, Canada, Pakistan, India, Kenya, Tanzania, etc. The European Union.... who needs it. a bunch of countries entering a union in fear of what has happened in the past.
please everybody, do not use these views, to represent all of in the UK. maybe i am biased, because i live in a student town, but i know not one person who is patriotic, likes the commonweath, has or looks up to a flag, wound'nt say no to getting rid of the monarchy, or is agaisnt the EU if done correctly in accorance to peace, justice and equality i just wanted to represent my generation, and its view on modern britain, just so this was a true representation. i am not saying you (garynewelluk) aer not entitled to your views, but they remind me of old england, which (luckily) is starting to fade away peace, love and sunflowers
The European Union is what the US originally was. The states were all sovereign. They came together to form the Union. That came with the constituional right to back out of the VOLUNTARY union, which is what the southern states did. Then they were attacked for it, under Lincolns dicatorship, who sought to impose his own rules on a seperate country. The US flag is supposed to represent freedom and unity, but it hasnt meant that since the Colonies. We should look to England, whose tyranny we fought to be free of, for a better example of how to be. I think that we Scots here should go back to Scotland, because the tyranny we fled is no longer there, but is now in the land we came to be free. I like the monarchy as well, and would love to see that system survive. I, for one, am decended from those royal families, and wouldnt mind the opportunity lol. I am proud of all of my ancestry, even the bits of Saxon tossed in, and would love to go back home. And i think its cool that sports has become the new battlefield of the English , Scots, Irish and Welsh. Thats good, because wars cant be fought like they used to be, man to man, so the warriors have found a new way.
