yeah. well, it just popped up so easily. i wonder, is it really derogatory? or just silly? i mean, maybe it's just like "gay" or "lesbian." the word hasn't been around long enough in this form for me to know what to make of it.
i wonder, though, "brokeback" sorta lends itself to the juvenile usage. it kinda makes me wonder why that particular mountain was chosen for the title. does the book say? was it some sorta freudian thing?
If it's being used to poke fun at people who are gay, then yes, it's derogatory. And trust me, if they are calling gay people brokebacks, they are doing it to try to be funny. Derogatory means belittling, disrespectful.
Oh, man, people have been making fun of that for months. "Seen that new cowfag movie, "bare back mounting?" that sort of thing. People will be crap to each other no matter what.
My boyfriend, the night we went to see the movie, couldn't remember the name of it, but instead said: "When does that gay movie start?" LOL
This movie gives a whole new meaning to the Waylon Jennings/Willie Nelson song "Momma's Don't let your babies grow up to be Cowboys".
i loved it it was such a good movie i made my boyfriend come with me and see it...its such a good/sad movie i cried watching it and andy even liked it...im taking my sister to see it today...they kind of draged it out a little to long but it made me realize how mean people can really be to gay people....some of my old friends use to talk about going gay-bashing i've always thought it was wrong i mean i'm bi and proud but i guess being a girl its different because its "hot"...i hope it opened up some peoples eyes and made(make) them realize that its not wrong to love who you want no matter there sex, race, or religion... peace and love to all...
The previews of that movie gave me the willies. I thought it looked disgusting and would never see it.
i just avoid tear jerkers as a general rule. movies with cheating spouses don't really win any points with me, either. they just leave me in a horrible funk.
well, now, we're all here to express ourselves and learn from each other. sure, it wasn't particularly meaningful, but it was his immediate emotional response to what he saw. personally, i like to know who these people are, for future reference.
I've went seeing Brokeback Mountain yesterday evening with very high expectations, and I wasn't disappointed, the movie lived to all of those expectations. Ang Lee is a GREAT director, he's got a very personal style of making movies, and though you sort of have to get used to it, I really love that style. The story itself is beautiful of course, but there are so many factors that make this movie to a real masterpiece. The acting, for example, is also very good. Jake and Heath are so expressive without saying a lot (Brokeback isn't particularly a movie with lots of talking). Seriously, I love this film! It got me crying several times...I loved the part when Ennis and Jack meet again for the first time in four years, they're so...aawww
