I think it largely depends on the circumstances. While in general Brits may appear to be a tad more reserved that is variable as well.

Times have also changed and people are more global so different influences do tend to rub off and flavour cultures.

We are also talking about stereotypes on both sides. The brash outspoken American or a Brit at a football match.
