I had an ex girlfriend who lived a bit of ways away. Her step dad moved her from the UK, very nice guy, he was a cook in the gulf war, made friends with some Americans and moved here. Her uncle she neglected to tell me was the president of a hells angel chapter apparently. So she told me she had two people who could pick me up to come see her. Her step dads friends from the army buddys Or her uncles hells angels buddies. Needless to say we just decided to meet half way and go to her house Her dad cooked the biggest fucking burger I had ever seen, American super sized, it was 2 lbs of beef I believe, and we had lots of toppings. It was the best burger I had ever eaten.
Victim complex by any chance? Stereotyping while moaning about stereotyping, even if you think we stereotype more than you guys stereotype, and that reason being because we don't live there while also not having lived here....seems rather ridiculous, doesn't it?
That's how it comes across Piaf. This constant US bashing from these various (mostly small European) countries. And I would say it's probably an accurate perception, especially if you take into account our immigration numbers and cultural influence across the world.
You guys are stereotyping yourself, making tv series about it so yeah, who cares how it comes across to americans. And if you think that's the only way we are noticing your culture and behaviour, well... no one cares about that either
You are judging the rest of the world by your own merits but the fact of the matter is we (the average first world citizen outside US) know a lot more about US than you know about other specific first world countries. Yes I'm meaning in general to be clear.
My whole point was that it's all baseless. Honestly, I enjoy you Europeans. I like to argue, and it's so funny hearing your rants about the US. Because it really does seem to be based in some kind of jealousy. It's amusing to say the least.
No, I ment who cares how their self portrayed stereotypes come across americans (themselves) if confronted with the notion we might solely perceive them by american entertainment/media. Sorry I didn't word it more clearly. Happily I never declared myself as eloquent
We know a lot more than you think. And a lot of us travel throughout there. Mainly to see the architectural and cultural achievements of past Europeans, when it was a much more culturally thriving region. All the big gov't, the welfare and entitlements has made you a stagnant region, just as it's heading in that direction here.
Very typical reply, I might as well believe that arrogance stereotype holds some truth Apparently not
Well, how appropriate: I don't have the feeling most Americans who visit my country see a lot more than Amsterdam Actually, I think overall there are more people from our part of the world travelling the US for fun/out of interest than the other way around.
