Brit fined 10,000 pounds for Internet Slander

I agree with it. I was ready to get a restraining order and have somone's ass become the property of his future cell mate and he's lucky as fuck I didn't. Internet or not no one deserved to be victimized or the object of group mentality. FOr those of you who say it's just the internet you fail to understand that many people on here know each other in person.
There's a lot of people on this site who you can tell ate lunch alone way too many times in high school and wish to seek vengenge on others to deal with it. Honestly, Skip I would keep an eye out and protect yourself and your site. You have a lot of liability at stake legally speaking as there's people on here who have met in person and have had bad encounters with those they have met. I would just hate to see anyone who was not responsible for mal occurences get the brunt of them.
The internet has become a social outlet for many and consequently the legal implications that may arise are infinite.

 

I'd like to point out theres a tremendous difference between Aggravated Harassment using the internet, and Libel.

This was a Libel suit, which after rereading the article, may have had some merit, since someone accused him of being a sexual offender.

Aggravated Harrasment, which includes the internet is felonious, I don't think theres a comparison between either what Lynsey or BellFire talked about, and what this guy was suing about. Everything in his lawsuit aside from the sexual offender part is Prima Facie.

Libel cases don't get very far in the US unless someone is famous, because otherwise it's very hard to prove that damage happened to their reputation.

 

Somehow i don't think losing some standing in an internet forum clique would be worth much in damages, maybe 1 month free cable...or scratch that, DSL

no my ex fiance offered to retain a lawyer for me. I could have gotten this forum member thrown in jail for domestic abuse, slander and in addition I could have gotten a restraining order that would have special considerations of monitored internet use...yeah big time shit. Be careful what you people do because those you percieve as weak and meager tend to have a lot of people in their corner, thus they don't need to protect themselves. People hang themselves when they mistake kindness for weakness.

Sorry that someone was such an ass, but that is harrasment and domestic abuse. They probably threw slander in as an additional charge as they do in many criminal cases *charging murderers with handgun violations* in case they somehow get off.
