    don't be harsh.

  3. Coming from a man's point of view she has a point. Outfits with please fuck me written all over them are not very appealing, to me anyway. Sorry to be harsh.

I heard nothing but good things about The Lovely Bones, but I thought it was the crappiest piece of crap I ever read. Also, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. I didn't like the movie either, but that's just me being picky.

And the worst book of all time has to be The Pearl by John Steinbeck.

"The Mayor of Casterbridge" by Hardy. My God, i regret reading that to the end. I swear it dropped my I.Q by a good 10 points...i suppose i just thought-something HAS to happen soon. But it never came. He spent whole chapters giving detailed descriptions of the sound a fly made as it flew around a barn.
After quite enjoying the Da Vinci code, Angels and Demons disappointed me. The facts were so blatantly wrong that i had to stop reading. I mean i know its fiction, but suggesting the word assassin derives from the word haschich was too much for me. Everyone knows assassin was Shakespeares invention. Dan Browns shameless.

Ill shush now, although im sure there were more.

You mean you loved frankenstein? I studied it last year for my Alevels, and really enjoyed the course:) Shelley had an incredible life.

Oh, and i read a novella by Stephen King a few months ago called Apt Pupil. It was very bad writing, full of clichés...i dare say even i could have done better. Reading it in the same book as The Shawshank Redemption, which really inspired me, was strange.

i ADORED it. it was a very quick read because it flowed so perfectly. i really loved the feel of it.

i also really loved The Butcher Boy. fell in love with the crazy murderer kid, totally cried. the poor kid never had a chance. i have this mental image of him gleefully riding his bike with his legs in the air, laughing...so sweet, so sad.

oh, The Summons, not really digging it. i think it's interesting to watch the "hero" dealing with all that money and all it's temptations, but it's kinda derivative, i think, cliche.

i don't know if anybody said it yet, but lord of the flies

  12. They have. I didn't mind it. It was an easy 1 or 2 day read and was sort of interesting.

  13. Haven't read the book. But the movie was so beautiful. I love that kid...like you say, so sweet, so sad. What a great mix of absolute horror and fuzzy little warm feelings. :)

it's great, because in the book he's just plain funny, so full of life. totally innocent, really. i think i shoulda done a comparison of frankenstein's monster and the butcher boy. they're so alike.

I'm really starting to despise these recent addict books like A Million Little Pieces and Smack.

But the worst book I ever read was Go Ask Alice.

I haven't finished it yet, but i'm going to say it anyways. So far I am hating To the Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf. It just goes round and round in circles, but then it has these really enlightening moments and I will get into it, and then it will go in circles for pages again. Nothing has really happened yet.
At first I liked the Da Vinci Code but then it was so unreal like, oh, my grandfather just happend to be so obsessed with Da Vinci and he knows everytyhing , i dunno i didn't like it.

I've heard it said that 'assassin' is derived from 'hashshashin' in several places...they were a cult of mercenaries, I forget where and when. Their leader allegedly used to abduct young men and drug them up so that they awakened in his fortress surrounded by earthly pleasures and convinced they were already in Paradise so they had no need to fear death.

Hang on, I've found an article here, scroll down to 'etymology' -
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assassin

Worst book I can ever remember reading? Without a doubt, it's Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry...the writing and sentence construction is poor for a start, the story is tedious, and I found the book highly patronising.

    I hate this :

    Isaura,the slave.

I guess that nobody here has read this book, because it's a brasilian book. And well,i don't recommend. It's really boring, because the girl is so dramatic and she laments about everything and all the time. ¬¬
