Blackface.

Dave Chapelle's skits were hilarious. He lampooned everyone he could think of. Laughter takes the sting out of our foibles, be it black,white,oriental---whatever--and I think that is healthy. The context in which those guys did what they did was moronic and uncalled for. If a bunch of black guys showed up in "whiteface" and hollered at a white player to "eat more cabbage and shoot more meth" there would be a rope party. You can change your looks,but it's difficult ,if not impossible, to change your stupid. Blacks may be a little more sensitive about being made fun of-- because-THEY WERE USED AS HUMAN MACHINERY FOR HUNDREDS OF YEARS!!! Might make someone black a little sensitive to insensitive whites because they're still playing catch-up. And the monkey referance is blatently obvious.

 

I just remembered once on Halloween my friend couldn't think of a costume, so I slapped some brown make-up and a thick, fake black mustache on his face and presto - he was a Mexican for Halloween!

I'm sorry dreadlocksftw, but making distinctions between races isn't racist, it's reality..... And lampooning those differences, be it through exaggeration of frequently lampooned ones or through mentioning a never/seldom thought of, possibly humorous one, is just fine..... Tape up your eyes all you want and wear all the oversized nose spectacles you have a mind to.

There's a difference between that and showing up with monkeys in glasses to a sporting event. But even so, depending on what they're trying to do, it might NOT have been so bad, just in poor taste and timing. It doesn't sound like any of those people themselves can be that racist.... maybe I'm wrong. I've lived in new england, and where I was there was really no racism at all. Mostly white/french people, but there was no problem with others.

Again, there's a difference between painting your face or wearing a novelty nose and trying to force another race to ride the back of the buss or take a piss or get a drink somewhere else. I think that these people where likely trying to make fun of racists, egging on someone they suspected would win, with racist/steriotypical chants and preformance. It was obviously way over the line, but..... still not THAT horrible. Explain to them what fucktards they made of themselves, and move on.

 

Listen folks I’m black and I don’t have a problem with whitey putting on blackface and jumping around like chimpanzees.

IMO their atavistic approach to dealing with people they know little so about is quite humorous and exactly what I would expect.

Also, one of the main reasons I can't dress up like that and just parade around town is because I would get my ass kicked. (as would almost any other white guy that comes from sub-million dollar houses). these guys probably never see black people.

This is only what makes it into the heavily anglophone controlled media in Canada. Anglophone Canadians are extremely racist but they do it with a smile and are normally polite. Try being french Canadien in english Canada for a month and pay yourself a dime each time you can not rent an apartment, get a coffe at Tim Hortons, felt up if you're female, etc.

Always with that polite fucking smile like nothing is wrong and they're your best friend. At least the racists of the United States have the decency of wearing KKK clothings.
