My travel in the US has been limited, and I've only camped around in the midwest. Two places I'd recommend: The St Claire River in northwest Wisconsin, there's this gorge and it's just beautiful. I'm pissed because I lost my pictures of the area, it's got some spectacular views from the hiking trails, some great cliffs with cool rock formations. It's just a fun place to camp. Our site was right on the river (where it was flatter), you could see across to Minnesota and it was just all beautiful trees and water. Second, anywhere in the Upper Penninsula of Michigan is great. I camped once at Lake Gogebic in the very western part of the UP, saw some beautiful sunrises over the lake. We then drove around, up to Lake Superior in the Porcupine Mountains and it's wonderful. I'm just mad at myself because I haven't been back there yet! In a similar vein is Isle Royale, I haven't been there yet but have seen pictures and it looks spectacular, it's a national park in lake Superior, very rugged.
you have to go to Oregon......the most trees you have ever seen.....and thats where old hippies go when they "die"......i love it sooo much.....very hippie friendly
Mt. Rainer National Park Washington (State) Red River Gorge Kentucky Both are amazing and i have spent a lot of time at both of them. Mt. Rainer had tons of gorgeous waterfalls, the water is so good, cold, and clean. the gorge has tons of great hiking, rock climbing, etc. You really should check out both!
I agree! Mt Rainier is absolutely breathtaking! Here's a view from Seattle. And here's a quick link of a few pics I found online. http://rainierphotos.com/gallery/rainierp Best to visit between July thru September, in my opinion. I'll try to find some better pics if I have time later.
Bryce Canyon NP, Utah. Rock formations so colorful and strange looking, you'll think you're tripping...
im glad SOMEONE finally said something nice about the northeast. yes vermont has a certain charm to it. whatever you do, dont bother coming to connecticut
Connecticut is kind of boring haha. I didn't find anything appealing about it when I went there. I'm going to Vermont in the fall for college. I love it there. It's so amazing just to drive through the state. I have a thing for mountains though, so maybe that's just where my Vermont love is coming from.
well im goin to south fork in kentucky, which is near red river gorge, for spring break so im excited about that. i hear the adirondacks are real nice too so im thinking about that later on in the summer. i think another person also mentioned on this forum about padre island in texas, which would be beautiful. i would also like to add a personal favorite which anyone should visit, and thats Banff National Park in Canada, its beautiful up there. happy trails everyone
The White Mountains of New Hampshire are pretty cool. But it's getting quite touristy, but once your on the trails, for the most part, its awesome. There are some good conoeing rivers too, but they're over-populated with tourists mos tof the time, or at least the Saco river is. But, if you're in the area, check out the trails. Some may be hard, but the views at the end are rewarding.
Green River Resevoir in Lamoille County, Vermont is my favorite place to camp anywhere. Pristine 600 acre lake, no houses around it, you need to canoe to your camp site - its incredible
If you can get to the sland of Kauai,Hawaii, you will be so glad you did. Some of the most beautiful places in the world are there. If you like to hike, theres the NaPali Coast.Awesome!!!There are 3 valleys and the last valley is called Kalalau, which translates to "valley of the healing light".The hike is 12 miles, and so worth it..and there are no snakes.scorpions and centipedes, but beautiful beyond any words can describe. The ancient hawaiians lived there, and there are fruit trees, waterfalls, the ocean, wet caves, there used to be cherry tomatoes growing on the edge of the beach. There are pools surrounded with flowers, soap ginger to wash with...also,on the other side of the Island where the road ends is Waimea canyon, breathtaking and magical...its sort of like the grand canyon hawaiian style and much smaller.Hey,the grand canyon is a wonderful sight to behold as well.I loved to travel when I was a bit younger, and there are some awesome sights right here in the u.s.a. Have fun remember home is a state of mind.Aloha, enjoy!
If you want somewhere real remote and very challenging, hike the 100 mile wilderness in Maine, or if you want breathtaking views of gigantic waterfalls and densely forrested mountain ranges hike in the Cascades in Washington.
avoid florida i live here theres nothing here is all flat land and swamps an airboat ride is fun but still you wont see much "a few birds and gators" i been thru lots everglades on 3 wheeler honda too "dont try it" . Daytona beach was great to camp at, huge wide beach with a driveable sand road between the hotels and the ocean but but last time i went for bike week you could no longer stay the whole night in the beach camping 3 AM OR 4am was the time limit "im not exactly sure on the time " but for a long time you coud camp all night at the beach.
dolly sods wilderness(sp) area in West Virgina, awsome place. i have backpacked in there and gone hours without coming across another group of people. its the only sub artic tundra in the US.
Wow. You are gonna have a good time. I'm sure there's tons of good advice here but my choice is NORTHERN CALIFORNIA BY THE COAST mofo!!! You smoke a bowl up in the mountains lookin at the cliffs and sea below you and the sun setting way up there and I tell you my friend you can't beat it. Unless you see God. Which you may just might!
