"a society without different social classes in which the methods of production are owned and controlled by all its members and everyone works as much as they can and receives what they need."

What could be better than that? Absolute equality, elimination of responsibility, and fulfillment of ones needs. Free universal health care anyone?

how would i define freedom in liberal terms... ehh i dunno... but i do know that i've come to the conclusion that most people cant handle complete freedom. Its sad but if people were completely free.. and I mean really fucking free with no constraints this world would be alot worse & I think all peaceful people would agree, so if somehow we could use all of our species knowledge and create a new form of government where all perspectives are actually represented that would be the best thing for everyone... well except high level ceo's.. they did it in early America and its become outdated... Why do people not understand that all of these forms of government discussed are not equipped to handle the populations we have today.

Because I'm a greedy son of a bitch who wants more then what I need. Also your health care would suck in a society with no form of currency aside from trade and bartering, not to mention doctors generally want much more then they need too.

ALL humans are greedy, but a growing number feel it is the governments duty and responsibility to satisfy their greed.

I have a new form of government that is actually a combination of a few forms currently in existence. It is not quite perfect yet, though it is much better off than anything we currently have.

Essentially the first thing that would have to go is borders. Imaginary lines in the sand should not make one person different than another. Just because he/she lives farther away, doesn't make them any less of a person.

The second thing that has to go, is money, at least the way we have it set up today. This new society would be one that runs off of intrinsic motivation and material distribution.... Not trade, since we would all be working together.

**Many people at this point immediately discredit the possibility of this type of society working... But that is mainly due to the fact that we are currently very much trained into an intrinsic way of thinking. Many people claim that without money, most people wouldn't do anything! But this is simply not true and proof of this is everywhere. People love attention, love, and appreciation... and work for it all the time. People also love gadgets, toys, and creating, and do it all the time as well. A lot of engineers start designing things well before they ever get paid for it. Also, people like living in nice environments... Keeping it clean. If no one wants to take out the trash, someone, somewhere, would invent a way for it to be done mechanically. People in our current society talk about losing jobs to machines... In this new society, machines can take all the dirty jobs!! Just remember when you were a kid, ow much you did... just because you like doing it... Imagine if you were trained your whole life, to do things you liked. Knowing that a new invention would literally make you a celebrity.... Steve invented the ipod, and because of craig we can all have one!! Now steve and craig are known by everyone everywhere, and loved for their inventions. Don't act like the chance to be a celebrity isn't motivation.

Protection and laws… how would that work? Punishment? Education? Food? Shelter? Air conditioning? Energy? Secrecy?

First and foremost, and this is incredibly important… There will be no withheld information from anyone ever. Any conference, any document, and discovery, will be made known to all immediately. This holds true both within the scientific field, as well as within the government.
Can you imagine how quickly we would make discoveries if all labs were essentially working together? If there were not competing with each other all withholding information? All information would be put onto a network and shared, allowing for new discoveries to quickly and easily be utilized by everyone in expediting their research. The world would exist like one giant lab, quickly and efficiently discovering more and more. Plus, since all the scientists are doing this because they just thoroughly enjoy discovery, the work itself will be addicting!! Can you imagine work being addicting, work being… fun?
With no secrecy in the government, there would be no need to worry about hidden agendas. There would be no need to worry about lies and fraud. And with no money… There’d be no need to worry about corruption, bribery, greed, and scandal.
People + money = greed. Take money out of the equation, and you get people that want stuff and attention. Take secrecy out of the picture, and we can all have stuff, and the inventors become famous. It’s not hard to understand.
The government itself would be broken into parts and have three (potentially more) main goals:
The first: To make sure every person on this planet is entitled to their basic human rights.
    These rights include:
    • Good, healthy food to eat.
    • A nice place to live
    • Medical assistance when in trouble
    • Education
    • Freedom, for EVERYONE
    Food
Food would be controlled mostly by local governments as each region produces different food. Transport, distribution, and everything along those lines would come as technology improves. Once we set up ETT’s we could distribute anything across the globe in a couple hours. http://www.ET3.net which opens up many possibilities.
    Shelter
Living arrangements and housing is something I haven’t quite worked out yet, but I do know that there is no shortage of people that enjoy architecture. I also know quite of few people that enjoy civil engineering. I also know A LOT of people that like helping to build homes for the homeless. I am sure these things could come together. Architects and engineers design, and the “volunteers” help to “construct” the buildings.
    Medical care
I remember when I was a kid how badly I wanted to be a doctor. I wanted to do it because I wanted to help people. That is how most doctors start out. Look at the earthquakes that occurred, and see how many people volunteered to help those that are injured. It is within our nature to want to help others, especially when hurt.
    Education
Our education system is something that would need to be almost completely reworked, but essentially you can think of it as a liberal arts college starting in middle school. The beginnings would still remain pretty much the same, as children would learn the basics. However, as many of you I am sure have questioned many times in school “when am I ever going to need this?” is not something that would much be asked later on. School would very much be geared into getting children into learning about things that they liked as soon as possible. If a child likes math, he can take math.. I know I loved math growing up. But if a teenager is fascinated by makeup and thinks they want to be a make-up artist… Why do they need to know algebra? One of the keys to this education system is; it is available to everyone at all ages, and is free of charge always. What this means is nobody is ever “stuck” doing something they later decide they don’t like. They can always go back to school and enter into a new field…. Though they may be 34 with 15 year old classmates in their algebra class, heh, but if you’ve seen are you smarter than a 5th grader, you know that they will learn at the same rate. Higher levels of the system would essentially be more like apprenticeships than the school we have today. This will guarantee, that when you are fully ready, you already have help and support to get started and going. And since you are doing what you are passionate about, you will have plenty of motivation to continue.
**Brief sidenote. Many people claim that other are lazy, and will not want to do anything at all. That they will essentially be “leeches” on the system. Well, these people I am sure will still be doing SOMETHING. Even if that something is just watching videos people made on youtube and commenting on them. If it is giving credit to someone for working hard on that new device they are using. If it is thanking another person for the luxuries they are granted. Even if they don’t necessarily event the next technology, or be the entertainment we love, they still serve a part just by being an admirer and giving support. And chances are, at some point this person will want to attract a mate, or just want some attention themselves, or maybe even just see something beautiful, and want to help. Then they will move into doing something. But even if they are just sitting around, they are not hurting anybody by doing so. We only need a few minds to invent interstellar travel, and a few more to figure out a way for us all to enjoy it. It’s ok for us to rest, relax, and enjoy our production from time to time. Luckily for us, there are lots of people, and we tend to get bored easily.
    FREEDOM…. FOR ALL
Freedom is the trickiest of the rights, and therefore this explanation is the most important. After all, one could claim that we are violating his freedoms by not letting him rape that woman. He wants to rape that woman, so by not letting him, aren’t we in a way binding him?
This is why the “for all” is such a necessary factor here. No person’s action should violate the freedom of any other persons. If she does not want to have sex, then you are not allowed to take away her ability to say no. If he does not want to die, you are not allowed to kill him (It will always be assumed that nobody WANTS to die, unless specifically and easily proven otherwise… (They sit in a hair and push a button… blah blah blah)). If this person is in this possession and you want it, you cannot just take it from them. That violates their freedom to have it in the first place. So now the question arises, “what do we do with those that violate our freedoms? What do we do with the person that raped the child?
    “Punishment” system
This is another hot button issue that many people will immediately jump on. People like to play the judge and the victim in this world. People like to think that there are just good and bad people out there. There is a very good reason for this…. It’s easier than looking at the truth.
Here is an excerpt from an small paper I wrote dealing with the sex slave industry.
    Link to whole thing: http://blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendId=133558584&blogId=530659165
“I say this problem exists all over the world, and it’s true that it does… But it can just as easily be seen within our own imaginary lines. This country itself has so much crime, violence, and corruption going on that it makes it hard to care about those so far away. But the truth is, it’s the same problems existing everywhere, just on different scales.
In those countries the police officer will sellout information for 1000$. Here, it might be a million… But it’s the same corruption. The same information being sold out. The same crime being un-dealt with due to our own greed.
It’s hard to even look at that corrupt police officer and act like he is a bad man. Could you honestly say you would not do the same in his situation? I mean, a million dollars is a lot of money, and it’s just one little crime… What difference does it make?
The problems existing does not come from just a few corrupt individuals, it comes from us all. From the organization that enables people to be put into these situations. We all work hard for money. We all oftentimes do things we would prefer not doing for money. For many of us, those things are the everyday occurrence of going to work. So we can all relate to making sacrifices for money. The question then becomes, how big of a sacrifice are we willing to make? We can sacrifice our time a little bit, it’s just a bit our freedom, in exchange for potentially more freedom. We’ll spend a little less time with family to help provide them with an easier life. We can sacrifice our morals a little bit.. It’s just a job I don’t really like.. but it’s worth providing my family and I a “better” life. We can sacrifice our morals a little more… It’s just a little information, and now my family will never have to worry again!! We’ve already gone this far, why not just a little more… It’s just a persons life.. Hey, I mean, they are not someone I know… they are from another country… They are different than me… They’re not really a person to me anyway. And by sacrificing their life, I’ll be able to have whatever I want!
See, it’s all the same, just varying levels. Any person has the ability to lie to themselves, to make it seem ok. By looking at that person… that situation… and saying, well that’s just a few people, it’s not really my problem. Think about that the next time you make a sacrifice for money, and really ask yourself how far YOU would go. What if the situation was different? What if you really really needed it? What if your little brother had cancer and needed surgery that the doctors wouldn’t do… unless you had money. Is that other persons life… the one you don’t know… worth more to you than your little brother?!?
    I apologize.
I know that a lot of people at this point may take offence to what I am saying. A lot of people don’t ever want to even consider the possibility that they would do these things. They don’t want to be compared to those that do. They don’t want to imagine being put into these situations.
But people are. People are put into these situations. And once you kill one man. Once you enslave one woman. Once you convince yourself of that one major lie…. How do you go back? How do you face what you’ve done.. It’s much easier to just continue believing the lie… Continue slaving women… Continue selling lives. After all, they aren’t close to you, right?
So I do apologize to those who I’ve upset by saying all this. But I really just want you to understand, that this problem lies with all of us, with the very system in which we live. Not just within this country, but within the world. It’s a massive issue, which requires massive attention, and a great deal of change. It requires a lot of thought, and intelligent people… That actually cares and wants to make a difference… Not just make some money. People that are willing to stand above corruption and risk their lives by doing so. People like JFK. People like Martin Luther King. Not just one… But many.
Our prisons are also called correctional facilities. The reason for this is their original intent was to try and rehabilitate those who commit crimes so that they can once again function with society. It has been proven time and again, that these facilities do just the opposite. Most people leave them worse off than when they entered.
In this new society, there would be of course different levels of “punishments” for different acts, though they would all essentially have the same goal. We would be treating these people more so as though they were sick… We would not treat them like they are no longer human.
    1. Helping the person figure out why they did what they did.
    2. Helping them figure out why they thought it was OK.
    3. Helping them realize that it was not OK.
    4. Helping them learn to control themselves.
For minor incidents, this could be nothing more than “a trip to the principal’s office”. For more slightly more intense infringements, this could lead to required serious psychiatric treatment. For those of the most intense infractions, they would be relocated. The area in which they would be relocated to, would be just as nice as any other area in the world, though this one would be secure. It would be guarded, though there would not be cells. The treatment incurred would be intense psychological analysis. Lots of therapy. And they would not be allowed to leave the area, until they were deemed cured by the professionals.
Now… In a society where everyone has food… Everyone has shelter… Nobody HAS to do anything, and are free to do anything as long as it does not obstruct the freedoms of others… Where most things are obtainable simply by putting forth a little effort, either to build it, or print it out.. (Printers that print in 3 dimensions already exist and can already print using some basic metals). School is free, and opportunity is limitless… One has to imagine the rate of crime would be significantly lower than it currently is. But there will still be those that take freedom from others. And they will be dealt with as stated above.

The second main goal of the government: Regulating materials
Since certain materials can only be mined in certain parts of the world, regulating how these materials get used, and where they go is a crucial role that the government will have to play. Where the materials come from in no part plays a role in where the materials will go. This is HUGE as it completely takes away the idea of, I have this so I have the power. There would be no need to fight for oil, because it would be shared by all. (Though the truth is oil is a primitive form of fuel that needs to be done away with anyway).
I have to admit, I have not fully figured how this regulating would be done yet, though I can tell you that the idea of jewelry would more than likely be done away with, and art would probably replace jewels as a sign of affection. Instead of here, I bought you this thing that costs a lot, it would be, here I made this for you and it took forever. Or I invented this and I named it after you.
After all, when money is removed from the equation, why would wearing a rare piece of metal mean anything positive to anyone? From the perspective of this new world, all it says is, I am wasting resources. That platinum could be used in the new laptop monitors they are trying to produce for everyone. It would no longer be a symbol of wealth and power, but a symbol of wasted resources. Surely it has better uses than to wear around your neck.
Obtaining resources to mass produce items for everyone would be one of the major points of this section of government. Mining the planet, mining asteroids, RECYCLING GARBAGE HEAPS, would all be good ways to obtain the precious minerals. As new technology appears, these actions may become easier and easier.
Maybe we invent ways to harness unlimited free energy.
Then maybe we invent ways to turn that free energy into matter itself, granting us unlimited energy, and resources. Afterall, E=Mc^2. If we have unlimited energy, according to Einstein’s theory of relativity as well as nuclear physics, we also have unlimited matter and thus unlimited resources.
In the meantime, the goals would be to do best with what we have.
The Third Main Goal of Government: Protecting our home, and creating more space
This one is easy enough to understand. It means keeping our planet healthy. Keeping our air clean. Keeping things comfortable. Preventing asteroids from colliding with us. Finding new habitable planets, finding ways to make other planets habitable, or finding ways to create a planet itself (space station).

This just about covers everything I’ve thought of so far. I would love to see us get things together, and make this a reality.
    Love Steffan

A Theocracy would be best, if the one true God was allowed to be in charge. Since we as humans resisted that possibility, the next best form of government is an elected representative republic based on biblical principles.

You may have hit on something here. I'd be willing to allow America to become a Theocracy with God as President. Then congress could write all the bills they wished and await the Presidents signature to allow them become law.
In reality I don't believe there is a best form of government as all forms of government tend to deteriorate over time becoming more and more oppressive and corrupt. Sometimes I wonder if instead of electing representatives might we be better served by randomly drawing names from a pool of all citizens to fill the government offices.

All forms of government are doomed to fail because people are around. Out of the options, I think a republic is probably the best to delay that eventual demise. It's also the slowest to actually react to fix problems, so there's definite negatives. If a good leader is in charge, a monarchy would be best. There's no guarantee his kid will be good though.

    Small government.

History provides us with numerous examples of how and why governments, and their societies fail, but history is doomed to repeat.

The U.S. began with government as a source of protection, and has gradually morphed over the last hundred or so years into also becoming a provider. This has been accomplished by making the Constitution into a living document, essentially allowing it to be reinterpreted to accomplish the desired results. Although the Constitution is not unchangeable, it was meant to be changed only through the process of amendment, not reinterpretation of the original words. If we accept the Constitution as a living document, perhaps every citizen should be made aware of what meaning will be used at the beginning of each year. Rules, and laws are quite meaningless if we can't be sure what they mean at any given time. Can we really say that ignorance of the law is no excuse when the only way to determine what the law is, is to break it in order to see how it might be interpreted, which often is done on a case by case basis.

Yes, holy crap, people over time change what they view as rights and what the government should provide. 120 years ago a lot of people didn't think education was a right either but now most people agree education is needed in order to ensure other rights.

A basic education is likely accepted as a right by nearly everyone, right or left. At the same time I think quite a large number take issue with the education the Federal government mandates are providing which sometimes make basic education secondary to providing a good indoctrination.

If the current Texas school book is any idea of what some states want to do, maybe national standards isn't a bad thing.

I can't really choose from the list provided. Democracy seems too large an umbrella. Parliamentary government could be a choice (England) or Democratic Socialist (Sweden, Canada). Quite different from U.S. Democracy.
