This is really a hard decision to make. All of the Pink Floyd albums are good. But if I must choose one I will have to say Meddle is the best. No wait, Ummagumma. No that’s not right, Piper at the gates of Dawn. Yeah, I think that’s it. “I have a bike. You can ride it if you like. It’s got a basket a bell and things to make it look good. I’d give it to you if I could, but I barrowed it.” It’s such a happy go lucky song, its grrrrrreeaaaat!!!!
Animals is growing on my alot right now... I think it goes thus atm.. Animals Wish You Were Here Meddle
Wish you were here Animals Dark side of the moon Meddle I have to put on some Pink Floyd, now that I think of it.
piper is good, one of my faves, but to say the band was never as good as when syd was in the band is a bit farfetched...... I think they put out better stuff since then....... when dave was added to the group after syd started losing it, the band felt more whole, and dave had a better sound on guitar, and could play it much better.
there's too many. the top 3 would be atom heart mother, animals, and dark side. i like them all and theyre all good in their own ways though
That is true musically, but there is something about that era of Floyd that seems surreal. I mean even when David entered the band after Syd left. The time from Piper-Meddle is the greatest Floyd IMO. Of course Darkside was their defining moment but there is something about the feeling of early psychedelic Floyd that I love. But then again there are times when I am in a Roger Waters phase and love to listen to The Final Cut or throw on some of his stuff such as Pros and Cons or ATD. (Never got into KAOS much) It seems with me when it comes to Floyd, since their music is so diverse, it becomes a flavor of the week or month type thing. But my heart truely is with the Syd days and the pre darkside days. I loved their experimental instrumental pieces like A Saucerful of Secret (brilliant at Pompeii) No one matches the Floyd IMO. So unique thats why they are my fav. But I do agree with the point of saying they weren't as good as with when Syd...not to say they were BETTER, but Gilmour added a whole new dimension.
I think its silly to say that the band wasnt as good without syd. he was there for only one album. on saucerful of secrets he played rhythm guitar on only a couple of the tracks, and wrote and was featured on only one song on that album.... I think some of you have that kurt cobain syndrome where you think something is genuine and good, because you never have seen a person or band at its low point...... just imagine if syd never lost his mind, and laboured on with the pink floyd through the 60s and 70s...... they could have put out some bad material, or good...... but there is always that possibility..... still, I dont think you can really compare... you are comparing a whole era of pink floyd to one album in which syd was a huge part of.
If you reread my post, I never said that they were BETTER with Syd, I just said I liked predarkside Floyd days best as in a matter of opinion. You are taking what I said the wrong way.
The Piper at The Gates of Dawn. I love the Floyd´s first stuff. Dark Side of The Moon too, of course. Does anyone else like Obscured By Clouds?
Yes! OBC is in my top 5 of Floyd albums. Some of the songs on it, like The Gold It's In The... and the title track are almost heavy metal! I really dig it.
I like Saucerful myself, that's quite underrated too. The only one I don't really like is Pulse (BRING BACK ROGER WATERS!!!) but even that has DSOTM on, which kind of saves it.
