im happy i read this post, and thanks to all the people who posted. i used to chew tobacco a lot, probably a can a week, which isnt too too much. but it really messed up my gums so i stopped and they are better now. so i dont chew anymore. but recently ive been really wanting cigarretes. and idk why, because i have only smoked a handful of times and it was either when i was drunk or high. but im glad i read this because ive made the decision that im never even going to start smoking, i absolutely hate cigs. always have always will

i'm two weeks and two days into my first serious quit for years

it is fucking hard work... 23yrs of cigs and tobacco leaves ya with a pretty damn strong craving  but ye gods, i can feel the benefits already.. it is gonna be worth it

good luck to the quitters!! i'd like to give y'all some advice.. but all i can come up with is that yer've just gotta be teh most stubborn bastard ya can be about not smoking... without losing ya temper or constantly eating the entire contents of the fridge! :D

Every other time I quit smoking it bothered me. It was hard to do and I got cravings, etc but the smell of cigs really bothered me when other ppl were smoking. Now that I HAD to quit from being pregnant it was the easiest thing ever. I don't think I've had one craving to smoke and smoking just seems to be a ridiculously silly thing to do. However, the smell of secondhand smoke is lovely now. I love passing by people smoking on the street. :)

Just like many here have said that they found it hard to think of themselves as non-smokers after quitting, I'd find it hard to think of myself as a smoker. I've smoked maybe 5 cigarettes and 2 cigars in my whole life, and every time I've done it, I've always thought, "what the fuck am I doing? This isn't who I am."

we make out cigarettes to be soooo cool....but in reality we only make it appear that way because we are too powerless and weak to put them down.

well we think we need it to chill out our anxiety, but the truth is that it makes anxiety worse. On top of our normal level of anxiety, you add the anxiety that comes from needing a cigarette.

its like a vicious cycle. you smoke to chill out...then after you smoke the cigarette you think its helped you but your only going to want another one 5min later to chill out.

I love that since I stopped smoking my body has learned to chill its ownself out.

I smoked them occasionally. Like about 1 pack a month. for like a course of 4 months. Then suddenly I found myself craving a cigarette every day. When i would smoke one after that craving I would feel SUPER GOOD like EUPHORIC almost like an amphetamine high. I found that smoking them made me super relaxed. Almost any time before going to a restaurant with people I would love to have a cigarette. It totally chilled me out and made me socialize a million times better with that nicotine flowing in me.

I found smoking them when walking with friends amazing. Smoking when chilling in the park amazing. Then I thought to myself oh dang I am starting to get addicted and dependent on these bad things.

So I decided since i like them so much I had to quit. So I quit and had MAD urges ALL THE TIME to smoke. It's been like 4 months since I smoked a cigarette and I still get occasional urges. I think the only real reason I decided to quit smoking completely like absolutely no more is because I am an athlete. I wanna Stay in top shape and smoking cigarettes was for sure making my conditioning go down. I think if I was a lazy person I just wouldn't care and smoke a bunch of cigs .

Also I quit smoking weed too and I pretty much quit drinking. I never drink coffee and I am not really a fan of soda. So I never use caffeine. So I am totally drug-free now. My drug is intense exercise. If you work out crazy hard( i can run like 10 miles) then the relaxation afterward is fantastic. Oh and if your a weight lifter. I recommend squats. Make sure to do proper form and your legs are gonna be soooooo sore the next day if you do it right.

hehe keep thinking that. don't get started it unhealthy. back before I found how magical cigarettes were I used to think everyone who smoked was dumb. I was like wtf why do people smoke it's pointless. I thought they just smoked to be like smoking something or for the taste and then eventually just got addicted and got sick when they tried to quit so they became screwed.

Once I got older out of high school i found out that they are sooooo useful in taking away anxiety and relaxing. Once I had a fat tolerance to weed it barely relaxed me and I actually got bored of it. A cigarette though DANG!!!! I know it's sounds funny but you gotta kinda learn how cigarettes work and to smoke them and such. Plus when you have a low tolerance smoking a whole cig will just make you feel sick or funky. I remember my first time trying Dip. I got the fattest most euphoric head rush ever.

Also HATED cigarettes. TILL i tried CAMEL!!!!!! marlboro's are nasty. but camel's are the most addicting thing ever! Just thinking of one right now makes me wanna go sit outside n puff one. The same way some people enjoy a nice joint is the say same I enjoy a nice camel. kickback and just let the goodness flow.

Most people will tell you. It's the psychological addiction that keeps them smoking. As already stated earlier. They really really help with anxiety. and personally they keep me COOL for like 30min. after I smoke. not 5min. then again once you smoke smoke smoke your tolerance demands more more more.

Reading this thread lifts some weight off my shoulders.

I have been clean of cigs since December 27th 2008. Not one drag, not even held in my hand. I wish everyone the best when overcoming this money stealing, life taking, government benefiting, addiction.

In reality they really dont. They cause you to have more anxiety. Try Meditation...this actually works.

It's been a few months now that i went cold turkey. Now and days i do crave them but I start to think about how shitty your health can get.
I suggest you put a huge poster on your wall about the bad side of cigarettes...? Something to remind you of why you quit in the first place.Hope that helps..

I started smoking at school like 18 months ago, the people I talked to in class always took smoke breaks so I picked up bumming them. It's nice to get outside for break and smoking's a good reason. Started seeing a girl at school so we would smoke camel menthol lights and I started buying them which was a big mistake. About a month ago I managed to quit for two weeks and break the psychological addiction and I'm back to not smoking them unless I'm bumming.

I really do think the chemical dependency part is overblown. I don't think about them anymore unless I'm with people who are smoking and feel no urge to run out and pick some up. Just gotta break the habit of stopping by the store to get them.
