Definitely there is a bit of a process to recreating your identity and ego as a non-smoker.

And don't get too attached to smoking in private cars either. You think it's just a coincidence that cars don't come with cigarette lighters and ashtrays anymore?

    Muahahahahahahahaha!!!!!

Stopping smoking, for me, was a very difficult thing to do and it took more than one attempt to do so. If I were to smoke even a couple of cigarettes, I personally feel I would be instantly addicted again. So I avoid it.

I was determined not to become a reformed smoker as they drove me crazy when I was smoking. Each person picks the poison in their lives be it any substance or emotional baggage and they must decide when they are at a point of wanting it gone.

    For anyone who quits, bravo.

For anyone trying to quit, keep trying.

For anyone who smokes, that is your choice. Not up to me or anyone else to go there.

My dad quits smoking about twice a month, it's like a hobby. I've told him I don't wish to hear his bullshit anymore until he quits for real and it's been a year. He just wants attention.

I haven't smoked since I was a teen, trying to be cool.

I hate walking by a heavy smoker who smells so bad I can't believe they are still alive, and they aren't even smoking at that moment. Barf.

I have the same issue...my boyfriend still smokes.
I quit like 3 months ago and It was probably my 5th time trying. I still think about being a smoker all the time. I was actually thinking about it really hard latley. This thread actually helped me not want them...so that is good.

You have no idea how deep those claws can sink in to hold you...

it turns strong men into whiney bitching drug fiends when they 'need a cigarette'

I have walked miles, in adverse weather and in the early hours of the morning just so I could have a smoke.

Starbuck? I sincerely hope you're able to keep that going! You have my encouragement and support! As for me, I've never smoked in my life. The reason I never started? My maternal grandfather who passed away in April of 1992. (R.I.P. Walter)

lol sam, i smoke cigarettes too. it's just that i'm trying to quit and it's disgusting to get someone else's smoke puffed at your lunch whether you're a smoker or not.

Yes, you should. I never thought I would become more than a casual smoker, and it took years, but sure enough, it became a daily habit.

seriously quit while you can! quitting (and staying quit) is the hardest thing in the world. its definitely not a predicament you want to find yourself in one day.

I don't smoke but I have an addiction to chocolate and I literally go crazy if I don't eat it. It's bad... it feels like I neeeeeed it and I'm going to die if I don't get it. All those things they say to do, drink water, busy yourself, none of them work for me. I will think about it alllll freaking day :(
