Yeah kevin, coors is owned by miller now, I think? Then again, so's OE I think.... I don't buy the shit anymore, but I have the capacity to enjoy one. But if I'm paying for beer, it will probably be a mexican beer, a shiner, a pbr, or something like dogfish. (or lone star, for cheap shit that's better than the next cheap shit, like natty light.... but I don't drink like that anymore anyway) I dunno, free beer's free beer, the only free beer I ever regretted taking was a bud-light lime, but it was handed to me by one of my school's RA's, so I forced it down. Not my picture, but, the last "beer" I had:
That is truly disgusting. And in a disgusting amount of packaging, with a disgusting amount of marketing. I do admit, I like the carb-laden rice flavor in budweiser. But I REFUSE to touch the shit. the company's evil, and stole the name. And on top of that, it's the worlds best selling beer. Why is the developed world even selling the undeveloped world beer? That's fucked up.
Coors is a division of Molson. Most of the profits still go to the same family (Coors became bigger when it was bought because it led to international distribution and the family became richer). Coors is one of the big families behind the fun in Wisconsin. And yea I said when someone hands me one I do drink it. On a hot day it can work. But I think my comparison sort of works-Cheap Mexican Pot. In the summer I'd rather have a nice farmhouse ale, A Yards Saison, Victory Weissbeer, or a beautiful locally brewed Manayunk Summer Pleasure (my mouth is watering). They quench my thirst, taste real good, and it's a nice happy drunk (they are all a lot more strong than a Coors Lite). Dogfish (brewery out of Delaware) makes some excellent beers-if that's what you're referring to. Look at that head. That's a good beer.
Yes, I did mean the dogfish brewery. I'm afraid I don't really know much about beer, or have a chance to taste much of it.... I don't enjoy being more than one or two beers deep anymore, and I prefer the subtle effects of beer with good hearty food, and most people under 21 only drink to get smashed, my only fine beer drinking and cigar smoking friend left the country..... So if I pay for beer, it's 99.8% certain that it will be Shiner Bock.
Yea start paying attention to not only the brand of beer that you are drinking-but also the style (pilsner, pale ale, porter, wheat, belgium, saison, etc), and also season. Styles can really vary by brand (some saisons are really sweet, some aren't), styles can vary by season (winter saisons are darker and really warm you-summer saisons are lighter in color and quench your thirst) You learn to buy by brand-Dogfish makes real quality beers-although I don't enjoy all of their styles of beer. Victory makes excellent beers-mostly belgium style-but they are really varied. Weyerbacher beers-although I can taste the quality are many times too hoppy for me. Philly has a few really good beer stores-that sell them in singles. I'll go in and buy 6 beers of the same style and check them all out. And good beers also vary by year-about a month ago I went thru a bunch of beers to find my 'summer beers'-beers that I keep around when I want to quench my thirst. Rogue Somer Ale (Rogue has excellent and really interesting beers-spices and fruit flavors mixed in) was really good last year and this year is all right. Once your legal you should find a bar-a bar that is your bar. A bar that you feel comfortable in. I've got a regular bar that I go to-I always know a few people there-and there's always a good atmosphere to meet other people. Good local beer. Real good food. I had a good friend who did a lot of travelling-spending a few months at a time in a new city. He always said that it was important that you had a bar where the bartender knew your name and your beer.
Orangeboom, dutch import, fantastic beer. Dutch lager is my favourite Heineken and Amstel are other greats. Went to the beer museum in prague, chech Republic and had a beer made from cannabis called Hempbraucheck or somthing. it was swiss and tasted of those gummy bear sweets. Made the mistake of playing drinking games with 12% proof pints of beer - sore heads the next day, ha :2thumbsup:
I grew up on Yuengling-decent lager-it's the frat party standard here in Philadelphia. It's actually a German word meaning young son.
I can't drink anymore because I take Suboxone and it could kill me. But I really enjoyed the following brewing company's brews: 1. Troegs Brewing Company- Harrisburg, PA- my all-time favorite craft brewery. 2. Victory Brewing Company- Downingtown, PA- has way more beers than Troegs, but it lacks a certain something that Troegs has, although it is still a 9/10 establishment. 3. Dogfish Head- Milton, DE- this macro/micro brewery creates some of the most experimental, but almost always delicious brews, including the best IPA and Pumpkin Ale I have ever had. 4. Flying Dog Brewery- Frederick, MD- not up to par with Troegs or Victory, but still offers some great beer. 5. Clipper City Brewing COmpany- Baltimore, MD- one of my favorite 'secret' breweries that few people other than craftbeer nuts know about. I love their Marzen Octoberfest beer. It might be my all-time favorite Lager-ed beer in existence. I could go on and on, but start with those.
Excellent list. Rogue also makes some really interesting beers-on the level with Troegs and Dogfish. Troegs Mad Elf is one of my favorites. Up there with Victory Golden Monkey.
Flying Monkeys - Hoptical Illusion Easily one of the best beers I've ever had. Creemore Springs - Their lager, and more importantly, their Kellerbier. It's a thick brew (it's opaque), and has hops sediment in it. Sooooo fucking tasty! And, probably the second best beer I've ever had, Hobgoblin. It's thick and mighty, very full flavoured, almost like a dessert.
