Eat 1 orange a day and eat a clove of garlic everyday before dinner. It does wonders. I haven't been sick in many years.

i got it a couple months ago like you evidently have it now, Skip. i had 5 days of 'ick', then felt a little better...went back to work...and it body slammed my ass down. turned into bacterial lung infection. after a week of coughing that made me think i had broken a rib, i finally went to the doc. doc gave me strong antibiotics, prednisone and some kind of cough syrup with some codeine in it....all that made me so sick, took me a month to get near normal...the prednisone in particular was an unfortunate choice.

be careful with this stuff...it hammered my ass good. maybe you would like edgar cayce's remedy...castor oil on a flannel rag on your chest, with a heating pad on top of it for an hour, about three days in a row.

I don't believe in flu shots. I had a rare blood disease a few years back where I couldn't get the flu shot in fear of it weakening my immune system. Well, I ended up getting it last season and was sicker then I ever was without getting it.

Hope you get the flu shot squared away, though and you kick this illness in the ass!

Yep, add a shot of whisky every day or two to that list and you've got a surefire way to avoid/beat any cold/flu.

Thanks for all the kynd words folks! I am feeling somewhat better today, my energy is slowly coming back. This "flu" really took me for a nasty ride.

For those who like the nasty details... We old folks love to regale you young 'uns with them!

I ended up taking antibiotics (augmentin) as I feared a secondary throat infection was underway when my fever started to rise quickly. So the antibiotics added a whole range of complications to my illness, like diarrhea, dehydration, inability to swallow, incredibly salty saliva that is just now disappearing. But it seems to have kicked back whatever it was.

One really interesting weird experience thru this was I took Robitussin (actually generic safeway brand) to stop the coughing which made my throat raw. At first I made a mistake I took two doses too close together along with a delicious "medible", a chocolate truffle. Between the two I got to experience what some call "robotripping". I was hallucinating in 3D! Afterwards I attribute more of it to the medible and lack of sleep than the cough syrup as I doubt I took a large enough dose.

The worse part was my lack of sleep. I think I've only slept about 12 hours in the past week. That's the main reason I was bedridden, I kept trying to get some sleep between the coughing and phlegm waking me up every few minutes.

And since I stopped smoking the ganja, my chronic insomnia ensured that I wouldn't sleep more than an hour or so if indeed I managed to find my way into dreamland...

As for all you healthy young ppl... Yeah, I was like you too. In my twenties I was so healthy with a vegan diet, never got sick. I'm still relatively healthy for my age.

But I've found over the past decade I prefer to take my chances with a flu shot than have to endure a couple of weeks of being laid up every year. And yes, here in the US you usually do have to pay for a flu shot, and the price has gone up to like $30, but last year they gave them out for FREE to everyone if you went to the gov't sponsored clinics. I think it was also the idea of a mass gov't sponsored inoculation that sorta turned me off to the flu shot last year. My bad...
