c'mon..you can teach a seal to do tricks. They're like dolphins; would you want dolphins to be clubbed too? what are dolphins good for?

seals serve their purpose in the balance of the ecosystem. bludgeoning them simply for financial gain is unacceptable.

I don't want to see seals die. I like seals.

    but....

bouncing a ball on the end of your nose hardly shows you are intelligent. I mean look at what David Beckham can do with a ball.

    lol

but seriously, seals help keep the fish population in balance, killer whales and sharks help keep the seal population in balance. Man doesn't need to interfere with this; and there is such thing as "overfishing"

cows, chickens, sheep, pigs...they have all been bred and domesticated for the sole purpose of consumption; is this right? I don't know...but these animals are not out in the wild, contributing to the natural balance. they are more or less 'produced'.

Maybe the protestors such as Paul McCartney aught to be worried about how his country participated and is participating in the killing of innocent civilians around the world. Same goes with Bardo and her war mongering country America. But of course... animals are more important than human beings!

Oh whaaaah... American restraunts are going to boycott Canadian seafood? WHOOPIE! It is not like China does not want the seafood.... and the lumber... and the oil.... botcott away ;) meanwhile another superpower is setting up shop in your backyard!

I love the way Americans can sit behind a computer and try to dictate other countries actions through petitions and armchair signatures... yet they can not even stop thier own leaders from slaughtering hundreds of thousands of innocent humans... and thier own government does not even listen to them.

If people were so concerned about what is happening in Canada with the seals.... maybe they should quit whining about it from the safety of thier own home and get out and protest it in person!

Oh wait.... that would require half of the computer armchair activists to have to get up off thier asses and away from the computer and actually get outside!

Ahh the all familiar quote of a hippycrit!

Yup... those cows and chickens are not defenseless... they tote around submachine guns and grenades!

I will not even take the time to list off all of the American actions that involve cruelity to animals... there are just too many to list.

Hell even PETA in America takes and kills excess dogs and cats and then dispose of them in supermarket dumpsters.... animals they swore to find homes for!

Of course... Canadians clubbing seals to death (though they mostly use rifles and the media likes to show propaganda by only showing footage of the bashing which is a very minute percentage) is much worse than the American government strapping explosives to dolphins snouts and blowing them to peices ;)

Too many Americans are far to concerned with what is going on in other countries that they deny and forget what is happening in thier own front yard!

Your own country is raping the earth non stop and you want to focus on something that is happening elsewhere.... TYPICAL!

    Az

I can't believe this debate. An animal's intelligence or YOUR opinion of it shouldn't merit its right to not be slaughtered. Pigs happen to be very smart, btw. Say intelligence DID make it acceptable/unacceptable to kill and eat. By this merit, we should eat retarded people. Maybe also people with dementia or Alzheimers.

I also think it is sick the original poster condones killing cows but not seals? wtf
    Please sign the petition anyway.

Fuck, I HATE WASPS! They're not noble and loyal like the bee who would die to protect their hive. Instead they just go around and are all like "LOL I WLlI STNG JOO!!"
And you're all like, "WTF??!!!1 Y YOO JUSDT STNGI MEEEEH!!!?!?!!11!" Little bastards. All of em. I don't care, they should all DIE!!!

Oh, and, uh, seals? Well, just keep into consideration that the seal hunt to many Inuit Tribes is considered a sacred tradition. If you're referring to that, then shaaaame....
If your talking about those other white guys who club em' for no reason, then yeah. Right on. Whatever. Meh.

You could eat the limbs off people with alzheimers because by the morning they wouldn't remember who did it.

Simply replace the limbs with plastic ones and noone is any worse off.

The hilarious thing is that seal fur isn't even that great. Its soft, but the coats are too heavy to be really useful.

Tradition can not be used as an excuse for cruelty. If we allow it to, then this means slavery, child labour, bull fighting (the most pussy tradition ever), etc. are all justified. Anything done long enough can be considered "tradition". Cruelty under any guise is still cruelty.

Well....My sis is doin a project on the whole thing and there are some surprising things that people don't know about it that can make it significantly worse.

For instance, after killing, the hunters need to skin the seals out on the ice to preserve all they can. Unfortunately, people have a tendency to leave their trash behind. Yup, seal carcasses. The bodies left behind are usually left behind on the ice, to fall into the ocean and pollute the water. And yes, it DOES create pollution, this isn't simply something rotting naturally, there are such great number of rotting bodies down there that it's depleting oxygen levels in certain areas. This ultimately leads to "dead zones" where nothing grows, including fish. The depletion of fish is something many fishers blame on the seals but in fact the blame can be traced right back to some of those fishers.

Things like this affect so much more than just "poor baby seals". It spirals out and affects things like environment, employment, enconomy and trade.
So, what outweighs what really? Plenty of jobs for fishermen, more trade, lots of pretty gruesome fur and the false belief of greater quantities of fish OR less harm and killing to fellow beings, environmental health, more natural balance and NO fur hags!
