That's ridiculous! everyone knows Ronald McDonald is the anti-christ. Carrot top is just one of his minions.
i still dont see how believng in an eternal suffering afterlife for those who are christain warrents the whole thing [although i totally agree with you on the people who claim he wasnt Jewish and whatnot, that is messed up cause it shows yadda yadda] im going to stop talking now...but i still dont see how believing that people are going to Hell is bad, it doesnt really affect anyone [unless that try and change your views at al costs which is then just harassment]
I really like the way you put that... Anyway I agree with you Boss DJ, I was just simply saying that to bash other people and shove your beliefs in their faces isn't the way to go about it... That's all. I understand how insane it can make you when other religions are constantly trying to shove their ideas down your throat, but I always have been a firm believer in the old saying: Two wrongs don't make a right. So, I guess I'm saying, just because they do that to you, should you stoop to that level and do the same? You know how much you despise it, do you really wan't to make other people feel that way? Maybe you don't care I guess, and if you don't then that's totally up to you. But, I'm not criticizing you in any way, because I DO understand where you're coming from. I've literally had christians put their hand upon my knee, look me straight in the eye and say, "I feel sorry for you, you're so lost. I'm glad I know where I'm going when I die"... its utterly ANNOYING.
yea, thanks. i really didnt mean to offend anyone (although, after reading it again i dont see how i didnt) but it makes me so frustrated that some people are like that. im not claiming to have the alternative as someone said i was trying to do (the brainwashing thing). i dont know, i wish the people that follow a book that tells them to be good to fellow humans wouldnt look down on us who don't just because we dont follow thier religion. does anybody else know of any other millitant groups lik ethis in your area? id like to reasearch them.
ok, I don't ever post in the religous forums anymore because I'm not what you call your standard Christian. I don't go to church or read the bible or any of that stuff. I simply believe in god. I don't EVER push my faith on someone else. Ever. I hardly even discuss it with anyone. It's my personal business. But don't you see how you coming in here, shouting about how wrong we are is doing just what you are fighting against? Pushing your beliefs on others? Sounds quite hypocritical to me. Anyway, that's all I have to say.
Christians invade our "places" all the time, with their soliciting Jesus, and trying legislate "Christianity" into our system. Although, the first post was rather vicious...I certainly agree with your right to voice your opinion, Boss d.j. and anyone else here. And I agree with your opinion as well. Most Christians act like if THEY personally aren't shoving the myth down your throat, that you don't have a right to blast Christians in general. However, we know that there are 750,000 different VERSIONS of Jesus and God, right? Every Christian I know says either "Well, those guys aren't real Christians..." or "Well, God is really this....", "What God really meant is this....", "You're taking it out of context..." (that's my personal favorite) and "You can't explain it in human terms, you just have to have faith..." (so, what do we explain it in? Doggie terms?) Christianity IS personal, but just because one or two of you live by your VERSION of what you think Jesus "really" meant, doesn't mean that the majority of your BROTHERS AND SISTERS aren't trying to CHRISTIANIZE the world and shove it down our throats. I admire people who stand up against such coercion.
hey, like I said, I don't advocate trying to shove it down someone's throat. I am sorry if lots of people who believe in God do that, but it's not all of us. I will openly admit that I don't practise Christianity in a "normal" way because most of them act like they are so superior and right.
i'll say what i said in another post. i would just like to say that more wars have been fought in the name of god than anything else. that means that god is the worst and most clever serial killer of all time. yet his killings are forgiven and hitler and stalins go down as crimes against humanity (not standing up for them). this goes for any god.
What exactly ARE "real" Christians? I've already heard 7,000 different "interpretations" of Jesus and God and Christianty... All trying to "save the Saviour" through sophistry, eh? Well, I would LOVE to see a REAL Christian one day. Just so I can finally end the search.
a real Christian. That's a good question! I guess it really is all how each individual interprets it. I dont' know if I'm considered a "real" Christian. I kind of am what I am. Libertine (just because you debate so well without resorting to personal attacks) can I ask a question? Why, in your opinion, is Christianity wrong? Even if we end up being wrong, in that case, we'd just die. Oh, well. But if we're right, what's wrong with thinking better safe than sorry? I know I said my first post was all I had to say, but this is one of the first times I've encountered a real debate, not just insulting the rebutters intelligence.
The first paragraph I can digest. The second is a repeat of that which I have already commented on posts back. PS. I do THINK FOR MYSELF. That is what gets me into so much trouble.
I consider you a real person with real intelligence, but I have yet to see a "real" Christian, but maybe I am just confused seeing as how I have been told so many definitions of what a "Real" Christian is. Thank you. I hope I debate as well as you are beautiful. Pascal's Wager. What IF...Libertine is wrong? Then, he will burn in hell. But, the risk of Christians being wrong is minimal. Well, two reasons I disagree with this argument. #1- Any religion could use it. I discussed it earlier in the "Proof Text" thread with the Invisible Pink Elephant belief. #2- It's faulty. If Christianity isn't real, then many people have wasted time, effort, money, action on trying to prepare for the next life instead of this one. People would have wasted time in prayer instead of action. People would have killed or warred in the name of nothingness. People would have been ignorant their whole lives and left potential behind. My father, for instance, (who is a brilliant man) turned down TWO fantastic career opportunities and several win-win business ventures because they required his services on the "sabbath" or because the voice of "god" told him to stay in his pissy little preaching ministry. It's hard to see a great man held down by religion. Damn hard. If he is happy doing what he does...fine. But, he's not. He's there because GOD said so.
I could see how in your experiences you could feel that way. And as history shows, you are very right about many Christians doing things "for thier faith" that have hindered them or others. It's actually quite hard for me to sit and defend my religon! That being said, as much as it sounds like a bunch of bull, it really does all come down to faith. I used to question why there wasn't any hard evidence supporting Christianity. I have come to believe that there's only one explanation for that. When God created man, he gave them the power of choice. If he had just created drones who all worship him daily and everyone had no excuse not to believe, there wouldn't be any love behind it. What's the point in that?
You are using the "free will" argument. As there is no evidence of Biblegod, there is no evidence of free will (in that sphere) either. For instance, what do we get to choose? Love me or die? Turn or Burn? Anyone will tell you that is not a REAL CHOICE. That is not real freedom. Suppose, you and I were dating and I told you that I loved you and I wanted you to love me. You may like me, but it isn't really "love" to you. So, I tell you that if you do love me I'll give you anything in my power (pleasure principle). Cars, jewelry, money, etc..but is that real love? And would you really love me or just what you could get for yourself? Now, let's suppose that you said that you still wouldn't love me just for that, so I told you that if you didn't love me that I was going to lock you up in a room and torment you, so you'd better!!! (Pain principle)...would THAT be love? See, this is what you get with Biblegod and Christianity...love me or burn in hell...WOW what a choice! This is why I don't believe in it (one of the several reasons). Either it's bullshit or "god" is some badass monster who doesn't know the meaning of REAL LOVE or REAL CHOICE.
Ah...the old vented PERSONAL ATTACK. Ignorance shows it's face again. Unconditional love? Love me or burn in Hell. Perhaps you need to look up the meaning of "unconditional". Wisdom and enlightment...I am not ready for it. Damn, I was hoping that someone could enlighten me to the wisdom of how all this makes sense... So, much for that. PS. Nice "unconditional" Christian love you're showing me here, btw.
That's a really good point, Libertine. I don't have anything to say about it because I don't believe God really tosses people in hell for not doing things exactly how some 19th century Puritan decided things should be. I think hell is reserved for those who go through the Tribulation and still don't believe. I should probably let some devout hardcore church Christian continue this debate! It's really good to hear your views, though! Like I said, I'm a very different sort of god/ jesus loving person. I have my own faith and in times of hardship, I like to think that some higher power can somehow lift the weight. I may be wrong, but when my head is hung low and all I feel I have left is prayer- hey- whatever helps!
