Wasn't the snow, it was the ice that was the problem. (and bad management, timing, road design, etc. etc.)
The Governor is trying to get his ducks in a row today. http://www.wsbtv.com/news/news/loca...ources-ahead-winter-st/ndJWr/?ref=cbTopWidget
The forecasters are predicting now that we (the southeast) will have more "weather" than what we've already experienced. I'm off today and supposed to work tomorrow night. (edit: but according to what the weather does, I may be right here at home tomorrow night. )
This winter has been rather trying even for those who are use to getting accumulation. I don't think I remember a winter where the roads in general have been so poorly maintained as this one. We always get snow and cold temperatures and usually cope with it fairly well. This year has been a totally different experience.
schools have already been closed here for tomorrow in anticipation of some freezing rain that probably won't fall until tomorrow afternoon. We are supposed to get from 6 - 12 inches of snow (depending on how the ice accumulation compacts the snow) but it isn't really going to get heavy until tomorrow evening my mom said the grocery store was wiped out of bread and milk earlier..what is with southerners and bread and milk when it snows?
Lots of counties around here have closed schools for tomorrow but not our county. Toast tips and gravy? One of the local groceries is out of bananas, too.
I have to say it is the same here. We have already gotten more than twice as much snow as average and had many more severely cold days below zero than usual. The main streets are generally clear with dry pavement. Side streets are awful. I have to park on the street and that sucks. Always wonder if I will be able to get the car out or just spin my wheels. People want to make sure they don't run out of basics I guess. It can happen here as well. I don't eat all that much bread and I drink almond milk so I don't usually notice. That and the fact that I tend to stock up on groceries in general whenever I can.
Didn't read through this whole thread to see if anyone mentioned this... but with Pax out there Obama has declared Georgia in a state of emergency and the feds are coming in there to help them.... but yea, apparently GA was not capable of doing it themselves..
roadway here thats closed and only one way for 3miles. Its like driving at the fun park amusement ride, big frozen middle lump, and 2 tire ruts. depending on the snow amount. the middle part will scrap the bottom the car the entire way. it sounds like an endless clearing your throat..
Ugh... Listen to the adjectives! http://www.wsbtv.com/news/news/local/atlanta-weather-minute-minute-winter-storm-coverag/ndKdL/
If the power goes out for days, as the weather updates say is possible, I am screwed over here. I ended up not going to the grocery store because my youngest is sick and we don't have a lot of non-perishables right now. The storm is supposed to start about now and I am just getting out of bed...I don't think I'll sleep anymore tonight. Here goes.
Stay safe and I hope you don't lose power. Being out of power in the winter can make it very cold and sometimes it takes days for them to get all the power back running. They are talking about a lot of ice to collect on the trees and power lines.
